Windows 10: Windows upgrade from 1809 to 1909 keeps failing.

I've had this issue for awhile, made several attempts to upgrade, ends the same every time - "Undoing changes made to your system". This upgrade takes nearly an 1-1.5hours and it's frustrating when it fails especially close to complete. Eventually, after countless hours wasted, I just gave up seeing as my pc runs fine without the upgrade. As of late, windows is pushing the upgrade on me because they will soon be discontinuing support for my current version. Now, I have to reach out for some possible solutions. So, let me explain what's going on.

Downloading the update/upgrade is no problem. After it finishes downloading, it asks me to restart to begin installation. So, now we are at the installation screen. My first hiccup is when it reaches 30% and is trying to restart the pc. It will saying "restarting" the balls with spins for a minute, and then bam frozen. I've tried waiting an hour once to see what it would do, but it stays frozen. At this point, I have to reboot manually. After I reboot manually, it continues the installation (sometimes starting back from 50-60%).

Once it reaches around 75-80% it will try to restart again and I have run into a few different scenarios from this point:

1. It will freeze at "restarting" and I have to manually reboot again. After this reboot, it will say "Undoing changes made to the system" or whatever and then brings me back where I started.
2. It will successfully restart on its own. However, after restarting it will load up to a blank black screen with no way to get out. The only option is to manually reboot, which will then bring me to "Undoing changes...".
3. It will successfully restart on its own and resume installation but fail after freezing when it tries to restart for the final time at 99%.

Troubleshooting Methods I've Tried:

• Cleaning image via cmd prompt.
• Checking disks for errors.
• Running troubleshooter on windows update itself.
• Running SFC via cmd prompt.
• Clearing out update cache and cleaning disk of unneeded update files.
• Tried updating using Windows Media Tool and Upgrade Assistant.

About My PC:

• 64bit Windows 10
• The OS is loaded on a 112GB SSD (There is ~57GB free)
• D: is a 1TB HDD where I keep my apps and games.
• CPU, GPU are good.
• 16GB ram.

I would really like to avoid a wipe if possible. I figured I would make one last attempt at preventing a clean-installation by reaching out to the community. Hopefully, I can gain some insight on this.

Upgraded to 1903 but it still 1809

At this point I am just exploring this topic and listening to all opinions.

Upgrading from 1809 to 1903 on my desktop was painless and error free, but it was forced upon me by MS. They ignored my update delay settings, and suddenly and unexpectedly the update/upgrade began. I resigned to it because I have four 1809 Macrium mirrors. If 1903 failed, I could easily restore.

Currently, I still have 1809 on the laptop. Are you suggesting to upgrade from 1809 to 1909? Now, 1909 is offered on the settings\updates page. I made two attempts to upgrade from 1809 to 1903. The first attempt was from the update link in the settings\updates and the second attempt was from Microsoft's update site - both failed. Based on this recent experience, the 1909 update will also fail because of Acer.

 

Windows 10 update 1909

Hey,

I've just clean installed windows 10. It is build 1803.

Today awesome 1909 have launched. I want to update to 1909 but in settings it is showing me option to upgrade to 1809. My friend told me I have to upgrade to 1809, then 1903 and then finally 1909.

I want to directly upgrade to 1909 without going through intermediate steps. How can I do this?

 

Windows 10 1809 to 1903 upgrad

I have a number of Windows 10 systems that need to be upgraded from 1809 to 1909. The issue is that they cannot be connected to the internet and the upgrade keeps failing because it tries to connect to get libraries. Is there an upgrade I can use that
does not require a connection to the internet or a WSUS server?
