Windows 10: Windows Virus and Thread Protection Update Notifications

I have searched support and I am unable to solve my issue with any method previously posted. I receive multiple threat protection update definition notifications per day. I have tried turning off the notifications using group policies, and that did not work with the current Windows 10 build.


I am an administrator on both this client and the entire company network, however Windows Security>Virus and threat protection settings>Change notification settings>Manage notifications>Get informational updates, the slider is greyed out. I'm not sure that this slider is the one that would stop the notifications anyway.


These are incredibly annoying. Can anyone help???

Can I disable only the "Update virus protection" notifications?


I have a Windows 10 VM and if it's not connected for more than a day there is a notification to update virus protection. It's getting a little annoying. The solutions I have found by searching suggest disabling virus notifications entirely but I don't want to do that. All I want to do is disable these notifications that say Windows anti-virus is out of date. Is that possible?

Is anyone else running a Windows 10 in a VM and how do you deal with this?

Windows 10 notification keeps reporting Turn on Virus Protection

Windows 10 notification keeps reporting "Turn on Virus Protection. Virus protection is turned off. Under Settings/Update & Security/ Windows Defender all the options show "On", including Real Time Protection. However the settings are greyed out and I cannot
try turn off and then back on. Any suggestions as to how to fix defender?

Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

If the issue still persists, I suggest you to uninstall the third-party anti-virus software.

Step 2: I suggest you to run Windows Defender on your device and check if it helps.
