Windows 10: Windows Voice Recorder Crash After Rename of a File or Editing a Recording

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps:


Windows App Troubleshooter

Reset The App

Uninstall/Reinstall the Windows Voice Recorder App


I am still experiencing the same deficit. When I attempt to rename a file or edit an audio track the voice recorder crashes. The audio files are very short (<1 Second). Would this affect the application's performance?

Voice Recorder Flags Disappeared

I realize the problem you are facing with the voice recorder.

To assist you better, please answer the below:

  Are you using windows built-in voice recorder or any other 3rd party voice recorder application?
  
• 
  If you are using Build in Windows recorder, how did you put the flag?
  

If you are using built-in Windows recorder, there is no option to put a flag on recorded voice. Provide us the screenshot of recording interface with Flag.

Steps Recorder there... but not there


I seemed to have been saved by a link to this fix:
Please use regedit to rename hklm\software\policies\microsoft\windows\AppCompat - changeAppCompat to AppCompat_HOLD . Then try launching PSR again.
Tried it and now Steps Recorder seems to be working as it should.
But to follow up on your suggestion, I'm going to try to find and repair the corrupt files that my sfc scan found... after setting a restore point!
