Windows Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Hi,

Yesterday my windows 10 laptop stopped connecting to the internet. I have tried many fixes so far but haven't been able to come up with a solution.

Internet troubleshooting shows: "Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration"
Internet connection displays: No Internet, secured
Internet is also working fine on other devices.
I have tried netsh winsock reset and checked that IP is being obtained automatically.

I am also attaching the troubleshooting report. Any help is appreciated been trying to fix this for a while.

Thanks in advance

:)

Windows Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration

What happens if you do an ipconfig

The command below will copy ipconfig output to the clipboard, after running it just paste the results into your post
Code: ipconfig | clip
Here are the results of ipconfig:

For some reason your WiFi is not picking up an IP from the router, That's what the 169.254.191.110 means.

Have you tried disabling and then re-enabling your WiFi card.
Have you tried removing the power from your router for about 15 seconds and turn it back on.

Windows Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration

I would try giving your WiFi card a static IP that's in the same subnet as your other devices. If you need help with that I can guide you.

On one of your computers with a working network do an ipconfig
Code: ipconfig
The results will look something like this

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter VMware:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : TOKEN
Wireless LAN adapter Local Area Connection* 1:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Ethernet adapter Ethernet 3:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::5cce:b69c:c669:7459%12
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.100.102
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.100.1

Windows Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration [IMG]
Note
Make note of the IPv4 Address
Make note of the Subnet Mask
Make note of the Default Gateway

Now on the computer with the non working WiFi press the Windows Key + R and type or paste the code below into the run box
Code: ncpa.cpl
Right click on the adapter that you want to change, Note: I selected my Lan card I am not using WiFi, you have to select your Wifi card.
Then select properties'.

Windows Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration [IMG]

Now with the info you got from the other computer
set the IPv4 Address to a different IP than the other computer EG: if you got 192.168.0.100 use 192.168.0.180
Click your mouse in the Subnet Mask box (it will fill itself in automatically)
Set the Default Gateway to the same as your other computer.

Press OK a couple of time's and the results if it worked or not should be almost instant.

Hi,

So I did what you said and the Wifi card now is properly identifying the network, however its still showing No internet, secured. I ran troubleshooting again and now it says couldn't identify the problem. Any ideas??

Are you sure you put the right IP
The first three numbers in the IP are important if the IP in the working computer is 192.168.0 then the first three numbers in the not working computer have to be 192.168.0 . the last numbers cannot be the same and the maximum number cannot be higher than 254.

If you open a command prompt and type in
Code: ping 8.8.8.8
does it say unreachable.

If it does go back into your IPv4 settings and change your DNS server to
Code: 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
and see if that helps.

Windows Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration

I checked it again its the right IP. Also ping 8.8.8.8 worked sent 4 packets received 4 (0% loss). Also now it says connected but troubleshooting is saying DNS server isn't responding.

Lets see if its a DNS issue try a ping with this
Code: ping www.microsoft.com
