Windows 10: Windows10 Update: kb3093266 - What Does It Do?

Yes, it messed up all my customizations as well, yet it said the update failed after restart and wants to do it again. I've tried all the fixes mentioned, but it stay a no-go *Banghead

 

After several attempts, I was able to download and install this update. To accomplish this feat I turned off my Bitdenfeder Anti-Virus program. I know simple. Since I just a simple operator, this was an accomplishment for me.

 

Yeah, and still: This should not be necessary. A WIndows Update should just install; no manual intervention and that's it.

 

I totally agree and really thought it would not work since most of the updates install without this old fashion method. Researching the changes to my system. First obvious is graphic display changes.

just installed on my desktop which is not on insider.
started as soon as I switch on and so far no problems.
smart security 8 is on desktop and it s working alright
my laptop is on insider and had no update for it

 

Mine updated fine and no problems. I also run a insider version and it didn't receive this update but the insider did receive an build update last week.

 

I'm running the RTM version of Win10 Pro and saw the Windows DVD Player on the list of Apps earlier this AM.

Nope, sorry but Microsoft has no control over the 3rd-party applications people choose to install (obviously). Had he been running Microsoft's Defender, instead of Bit-Defender (not made by Microsoft) he'd have had no trouble. AV programs other than Defender frequently interfere with normal Windows processes.

 

...but on the other hand from a company like MS you should expect that they have several test environments with the most common software installed and test their updates before actually publishing them.

I think the issue is more complicated than using a none MS AV - One of the PC's the UD failed on was a almost clean bare metal install & had no AV on as I only started installing it yesterday - The other had Trend Micro + on, out of interest I have just removed Trend in its entirety including hidden files & reg entries along with also removing Mbam - The update still failed, (grrrrrr) the installer above failed on both PC's also (scowls) - I have had very few updates fail in the last 20 odd years & I've usually found a fix but at the moment WU is disabled as I've run out of ideas at least for today & no time until after weekend, thank goodness for imaging software though & by Monday I'm sure you guys & gals will have sorted it .. *Eek
