Windows 10: Windows10 Update: kb3093266 - What Does It Do?

Cumulative update to RTM worked fine here it restarted twice during the install and then loaded fine did not take long maybe 10 minutes give or take .

I noticed the e mail client task bar icon is the same as before and not the same as the new Icon in 10547 . OTOH maybe that would be a windows store app update thing anyway .

The RTM update seems to run fine on my RTM primary hdd partition ( lucky I guess) . I'm back in 10547 partition ( daily driver ) now .

Microsoft implemented Critical Error dialog fixes first on 10547 build, then they pushed those to Windows 10 stable

FYI, current insider build 10547 already contains that fix. “We have fixed a lot of the underlying causes of the critical error dialog Insiders were seeing with Start. “

 

Well, it's been 24 hours since KB3093266 was installed and I'm happy to report that my P.C. has stopped requesting that I do a Scan-Disk/Restart every few hours...and asking me to run a Windows Defender scan several times a day. Now maybe Microsoft can continue shoving out incremental fixes and enhancements at least once a week, like you'd expect from one of the companies that made America great.

The wide ranging unpredictable effects of KB3093266 seem to be similar to the same thing that happens to smart phones when Apple and Google push out iOS/Android software updates. The internet lights up with problems they cause. I don't recall that happening frequently with Microsoft updates...not like what we're seeing with Windows10. Maybe Microsoft should ditch the Free Operating System idea upon the next O.S. release. They might try harder to get it right beforehand.

I did this yesterday and had no time to post here... but yes that solution worked for me too... and finally I'm done with this CU constantly trying to install itself and then failing every time.... Glad that's behind me now... MS you really need to get this stuff sorted before you decide to release a CU that only causes more problems than it resolves?

I ran the cumulative update on 2 (other ) upgraded to RTM boxes here no probs didnt take long ,lucky I guess ☻

 

Just tried sfc /scannow & its only gone & ruddy worked! I fell off my computer chair when it said succeeded - Even though its almost midnight I've been up on the roof dancing with delight until the local constabulary coaxed me down & they thought I was drunk though i'm quite sober until I showed the policeman this thread then he understood though he is still on XP - Thanks for the tips ... As of now.. just downloaded and it's working smoothly.. *Smile

 

This CU installed fine on my system, with no problems as described in this thread.

Win10 Professional, 32-bit.

 

I keep getting failures. I made an image but wonder if I should keep running and hope MS fixes this or should I restore my complete image?

 

The Cumulative Windows 10 RTM update was uneventfull on 2 of 3 PC's and went into another one fine but about 4-5 hrs later when we tried to use it the touchpad stopped working on the HP Elitebook that was upgraded to W 10 RTM about 1 wk ago with no problems at a week of frequent use by now .

Winows hijacked a driver and put a vendor specific newer touch pad driver in that didnt work I was able to use the keyboard pointer & KB and delete that one and re install the most current OEM HP driver , it's back to regular (for now. )
Maybe next time I'll just plug in a USB mouse but it only took a couple of minutes fix anyway .

I dont know if that had anthing to do with the cumulative update today or it was just windows behaving badly . ☻☻

As per my usuall practice I installed all the latest OEM and or other good updated drivers at the Win 7 pro > Win 10 RTM upgrade on all 3 PC's and on the test build dual boot partition Insider buld last clean install on this one .

I made a Doc sub folder on the C drive of all 3 PC's with all the known working drivers in them that are also kept current and backed specific to each PC on R/W DVD's as well just in case .

I have my downloaded program /utility installers installers backed up on DVD's also along with Win 10 ISO 's for each box in thier own 10 or 20 DVD spindle pack . Once in a while that comes in handy for a specific fix without bringing out the slegehammer i.e. clean install, re image or re set .
