  1. WindowsRE Partition issues in Windows 10 Volume Media 1709 and 1803

    Long story short.

When enabling bitlocker we found that it wanted to create a new recovery partition of 602MB after looking into this some as we have never run into it before. We looked into the WinRE files and found that when installed from the Retail media the environment installed with no issues in the 499MB recovery partition. on the volume license media there was no files in the recovery partition. looking a bit deeper we found that the volume media installed the WINRE on the C:\ drive in C:\Recovery being that we were about to encrypt this drive it wanted to move the files to a new unencrypted partition. even deeper still we found the WinRE.WIM file on the volume media was larger than on the retail this combined with the other files that go in the recovery partition they were to large for the windows default recovery partition size. even deeper still we found this was only an issue on 1709 and 1803 and the WinRE.WIM file contained a folder that was most likely an oversight called [DELETED] putting this size over what the retail media has causing the issue of it not installing. after tricking the system to create a recovery partition twice the default size within the windows installer we found that the WindowsRE installed fine with the larger size partition of just under 1GB.

I am not sure if this is to be fixed if they finally release 1809 or not but as i could not find a single article on this issue I figured I would post the findings even though I am horrible at writing.

    :)

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

Sudden automatic appearance of disk partition on Windows 10

    Hi,

    • Follow the instructions from step 1 to 5 from the above section.
    • From the right pane of the Disk Management section, right-click the volume (partition) that you want to delete.
