Windows 10: Wipe and install Win 7

Yup long shot *Wink unfortunately I have had this laptop for a couple of months now, try as I have to adjust to Win 10 its just not happening so not able to roll back. Imagine to drama I'm having with the Macbook pro I purchased *Eek now there's a system that doesmy head in, I was trying it to be open minded .. . . . . . hmm if anyone can offer a good package to sync ipad without going to itines I all ears

 

The story so far . . . . . .I got into the Bios and eventually get the thing to boot from DVD, having not dispalyed a DVD in the first place (should have seen the warning signs) inserted Win7 Disk and rebooted fine, reads disk and then bang Blue Screen of death, happens 3 times so far

I am begining to think Win 10 and Asus just don't want to play

 

Pixie, I've read elsewhere that some newer computers will no longer allow anything older than Windows 10 to be installed. However, this might help:

If worse comes to worst, at least you can reinstall Windows 10.

 

@Pixie, I hope you've done your backup et all...

X540 isn't easy to install Windows 7 on (to my surprise, as it's not so new after all).

Warning, guy managed to install Windows 7, but some drivers are missing..

 

hmmm . . . . . does seem a nightmare, thanks for posting. I will persist. I want my laptop to perform my way, or am i just being stubbon

 

Your cpu may not accept a W7 install, what cpu does it have ?

Also, did you disable Secure Boot in the Bios ?

Probably set to boot to uefi only
dvd is not going to be able to do that

It's better to remove the existing hdd or ssd and insert a new one so at least the original install is intact

But yes you'll have to disable fast start/ secure boot/ and enable CSM/ boot also not as uefi only *Smile
Make sure os type is set to Other OS.

 

7freedom succeeded here, the only thing he hasn't got drivers for is the touchpad.

Another option would be to install a Linux Distro (like Ubuntu or Linux Mint) and then use VM software (like VMware Player) to create a W7 VM.

It might not be worthwhile if you mainly use your PC to play modern games though. *Sad

As it shows on the BSOD message, you might need to upgrade the "BIOS" firmware, which is not difficult to do, but if something goes wrong, your laptop will not be able to boot anymore.
You could also try a clean install of Windows 10 1709.
