    Wired NIC Issues

Hi there, I've been having issues with my network card consistently losing connection then getting it back, then dropping again in an almost loop type fashion. The connection grabs an IP for a few seconds then drops back out. The card also disappears from the Device manager/the light on the back of the card goes out also. I run 64bit windows 10 and my system is older a core 2 duo on an Asus p5k-vm mobo. The Marvell onboard card started to do it so I thought the onboard nic was flaking out.

I purchased a brand new card and put it into the pci slot and started to get the same issue (but more frequent drops and loops) I took the card back to the store to have it tested and everything worked fine. I took it to a friends house that had a Win 10 computer to test it on and no issues there. I put an old 10/100 card in there are no issues with the connection at all. Things I've tried to get this new card to work...
    -Several different versions of drivers
    -Different slots
    -Different cables
    -Different ports on the router/switch
-Changed several settings in the driver including power management, flow control, transmit speed etc...
-Disabled onboard lan in the bios before installing other card
    -Different router firmware
-Realtek analysis software -everything is fine.
    -No Firewall or AV installed
-Event viewer shows a crazy amount of entries of "Name resolution for the name win10.ipv6.microsoft.com. timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded." Event ID1014
-Also shows a few of :"The network interface "Realtek PCI GBE Family Controller #2" has begun resetting. There will be a momentary disruption in network connectivity while the hardware resets.
Reason: The network driver requested that it be reset.
This network interface has reset 2 time(s) since it was last initialized."

Anything else that you can think of??? I'm at a total loss as the old 10/100 card works.

    :)

  2. Multiple network adapters in Win 10???

How do I get Win 10 to start with BOTH my wired NIC and WiFi card? After a reboot Win 10 starts the wired NIC but I have to manually start the wireless NIC. Worked fine in Win 7 - Win 10 broke it or maybe there's a setting????

  3. Internet connection Issues with my 1 yr old hp

    Hi,

Can you please confirm how your computer is connected to the Internet?

Did you try turning off the wireless NIC (network interface controller or LAN adapter) using the keyboard shortcut?

It looks like the router your computer is connected to has some issues. As a workaround, you may restart the router and check if that helps. If it doesn't, you may need to disable, and then re-enable your computer's NIC to check if the issue is resolved.

Please note that you don't have to disable the NIC but turn it off from the computer itself.

Many times the computers ignore the wired NIC when Wi-Fi is enabled. Turning the wireless NIC off automatically brings the wired one in focus.

Let us know how it goes.

    Wired NIC Issues

    Hello Gras and welcome! *Smile

All I can think of at the moment is that the motherboard drivers or BIOS may need updating for the newer card to work. I am not sure if this is one of the things you have tried. The most recent BIOS is version 0902 or a beta version 1001.

It does not look as if ASUS have released any W10 drivers so I am guessing you are running with the default W10 drivers installed by Microsoft when you upgraded to W10. These may not be optimised for your system. Older W7 64bit drivers released by ASUS might work better if you want to try them out; or search on Google for drivers that other people have had success with on your motherboard.

Hi philc43 thanks for the reply!! I am currently using the 1001 beta But maybe I should try downgrading. I am using the defaults for most of the system as I can't seem to find anything else that was put out by the manufacturers for Win10 with the exception of the Realtek wired GBE card.

I will have a look for the drivers and thank you for your suggestions!!

Windows 10 changed a fair bit after that, you should consider upgrading to the latest build.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean? 1001 is the last build of the bios they put out and I'm 99% sure my Win10 is updated fully. I did revisit the Asus website to find that my mobo is not on the list of compatible W10 boards though.

Could you please clarify for me what you meant?? Thanks!

Looks like there is something wrong with the mobo itself. I reinstalled windows 7 and the exact same thing keeps happening. Thanks for the help anyways! Cheers.
