Windows 10: wireless mouse stopped functioning on desk top

I replaced the battery, switched ports, tried a second mouse, nothing worked. Installed mouse in lap top and it works fine. Desk top keyboard has no pad so unable to use desktop at all. What must I do to make it work on desk top again.

Mobile wireless mouse stops working

I use a HP envoy lap top with a Microsoft Mobile Wireless Mouse 6000. The lap top also has a touch pad built in. It seems that after some updates the wireless mouse stops working. It is necessary to do a restart to restore the functionality of the wireless
mouse.

Other symptoms

Removing (unplug) and reinstalling the nano USB receiver does nothing.

Plugging in a USB mouse installs the appropriate drivers for the USB mouse.

The only to restore the wireless mouse is a hard restart or full power cycle.

BTW - This happened with W-8 and W-8.1.

Do I need to buy a new wireless mouse? If so, which Microsoft product should I buy?
