  1. WMV File Issue Windows 10

I recently discovered that my PC currently running on fully updated as of 2-18-21 version of Windows 10 will only play audio of .WMV files with a black screen. This occurs on all apps including Windows Media Player, Movies&TV, and Photos. My PC will play MP4 files and 3GP files fine. I haven't had this problem in the past.

Any solution tips would be greatly appreciated! I did a little research on my own and already tried turning off Windows features on Windows Media Player and turning them back on and that did not resolve my issue. It seems to me it may have something to do with the .WMV codec but I am no too familiar with that in my settings and do not want to create more errors trying for a solution.

    Thanks

    WMV file clean up?

I would like to know, if anyone can recommend me a good WMV file clean-up program that strip the file from all crap that was get added into it.

    The problem?

I tried to fix video play pauses with video from Panasonic TZ3 camera by updating the BSplayer to v 2.21 or so... It not fix the issue, but it added a troyan to my system. When I get rid of it, some WMV videos (rather perverted and rare, so to add) get busted - eg. it is not possible to play them anymore with old WinMedia player 7, or BSplayer Pro 1.41.
Media Player Classic and WinMedia player 9 can play them, tough.

I tried the ASF-AVI-RM-WMV Repair v1.82 ( repairvideo.com ) but it did not help me with this particular issue - but it did speed-up playing start of some RM files, so it does work somewhat...

    Any ideas, suggestions?

If necessary I can upload on rapidsh*t some tame files, like:
    Realtickling - Vibcharlotte3.wmv
...to be inspected *Big Grin WMV File Issue Windows 10 :D 88 240 450 bytes, tough...

    Anyone?

Windows 10 does not play WMV video files

    Hi

Having recently updated to Windows 10, I am astonished (annoyed) to discover Windows 10 does not play WMV video files, particularly those created using Windows Movie Maker. There doesn't seem to be very much advice on this on the net and the following is short list of the tried and failed suggestions:

    • Turning on/off WMP through Control Panel>Programs>Programs & Features>Turn Windows Feature On or Off.

    • Repeating the above then restarting my laptop twice, after which running sfc/scannow at the Command Prompt.

    • Disabling / enabling "Turn on DirectX Video Acceleration for WMV files" in WMP Options.

    • Troubleshooting Fix via Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>Troubleshooting>All Categories>Windows Media Player Settings - this just returns the message "Configuration settings might be set incorrectly" - but doesn't expand on what settings are wrong.

I also came across this "FIX: Updade to enable DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) of Windows Media Video content in Windows Media 10" at Windows 10 help and how-to - Windows Help.

However after downloaded the 'fix' (Download the WindowsMedia10-KB888656-x86-Global-ENU.exe package now.) it doesn't install - instead I get the error message "Not enough storage is available to process this command".

I appreciate that there are third party free WMV players available, but I liked WMP and cannot understand why it won't work on Windows 10. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    George

    WMV File Issue Windows 10

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
