Windows 10: Wonderful Microsoft

Um, no. OEM versions never provide support to the customer. Not support from Microsoft. You are told to speak with the maker of the PC (be it HP, Dell, Lenovo, or Johhnys corner pc shoppe). There is a reason that OEM costs less than retail. Why did you buy OEM over retail? I can guarantee it was "because its cheaper". You should always think, " I wonder why it is cheaper, either its a scam or it has limitations".

And you have a great forum full of people who know this stuff. You should have asked here if there was any question. You have been around a long while.

You are making it out like Microsoft purposely screwed YOU over to steal your money. But they simply followed the rules set forth that so many of us know like the backs of our hands. You had the wrong thing, you used it incorrectly, you didn't read the EULA and understand it couldn't be moved, and now it has become Microsofts fault for following the way it has always been?

I just don't see how you were harmed or misled by anybody but yourself.

Expecting OEM service assistance from Ms was a bit naive -- like expecting RedHat to provide service to individuals for CENTOS when corporations are paying a lot of money for the supported version - RHEL.

However Ms isn't at all "The Evil Empire" --there are millions of far worse organisations that treat customers far worse in manners that Ms would'nt even think of.

I've been threatened with Bailiff's / court cases / debt collectors from a BANK alleging I hadn't paid my minimum credit card amount back this month in spite of the fact the bill was for EUR 0.00 !!!! as I hadn't used that particular card this month and everything had been paid back on it. -- Even after a load of phoning to a HIDEOUS Indian off shored call centre didn't totally resolve the problem until I threatened to send the whole lot to a Consumer money program on the BBC plus every newspaper you could think of !!

Banks in any shape or form are far more EVIL any day of the week than Ms -- and remember Bill gates probably gives more money to charity etc than any organisation on this planet --I know he's not in day to day running of Ms - but it was through Ms's billions that he could do this.

Any large organisation has problems --try for example your Local council etc. Same deal !!!!

Yep Paul I was being facetious and yes you are absolutely correct I have admitted it was my fault for not remembering I had signed up before during the time the upgrade was being offered, and yes maybe I should have asked in here first before rushing in as excited as I was at the time because I do enjoy the dual boot on the small laptop because it saves me a lot of time and energy but I didn't.

All I can say is my sincere apologies to all that have tried to help me out and know I have made what I know now are some really basic mistakes and yes it has cost me dearly for being so gung ho with everything I do. I will not make any further remarks on this subject and in hindsight should have just shut up and got on with it and not voiced my own particular feelings regarding how I was dealt with.

However I do feel that Microsoft have radically changed their attitude from being rather obliging and pleasantly helpful because I have had to reinstall onto a new board more than once before for myself and my family - before to an attitude of tough luck mate ignorance of the law so to speak is no excuse go suck it up.

Again my apologies for wasting everyone's time and perhaps patience.

Yes, you can do that. IMHO though that's not it's intended purpose. My read on that is its for a scenario where your mother board failed, and you had to replace it. The new motherboard even if its an exact replacement will fail activation. Or you changed a bunch of hardware at the same time. The troubleshooter will fix it for you and reactivate your PC. Being able to transfer an OEM license is just a side effect of Microsoft not making the requirements to use the tool too stringent. Add to that, that just about every PC on the planet now gets Digital License, even OEM Windows 10 installs and its not to hard to transfer your DL. Just my 2 cents.

 

I'm sure MS is aware of that side effect and if they wanted to remove it they would. MS wants as many on W10 as possible so probably closing an eye.

 

Just forget OEM/System Builder licenses exist. They aren't intended for hobbyists on their own computers.
