  1. won't upgrade to windows 10 anniversay

I've just about given up. After doing EVERYTHING suggested in all the forum and online suggestions, I still get the error 0xc1900101-0x30018. I've disabled all non microsoft services, disabled wi-fi adapter, tried with a ISO burned to a DVD. Nothing solves the problem. If anyone has been able to update windows 10 home to the new anniversary version after getting this same error, PLEASE let me know how you did it. I am running Windows 10 Home, 32 bit. *Confused

    :)

Hi, did you upgrade from '7 or have you clean installed at any point?

If you upgraded, this may cause problems.

Have you run chkdsk C: /F?

Some people find that doing an in-place upgrade repair install of your existing version first may help.

Avoid Windows update as part of the process. Use your physical medium / iso as you have.

There is a cumulative update after the anniversary upgrade. Make sure you don't specify updates to be applied during the manual upgrade using the above.

    Uninstall your AV.

Make sure you have at least 450 Mb of unallocated space on your system drive/partition, and enough room for Windows.old to be created (will be smaller than your existing Windows folder) + say 10Gb min.

Make sure you have no programs installed that modify the GUI.

Others will probably have specific solutions or ideas.

Your system specs don't give the model of your PC. Can you confirm it is listed by HP as Win 10 compatible?

  5. I did uninstall my AV and disabled the windows firewall' I upgraded from windows 7 pro to the free upgrade for windows 10 home. I've been running windows 10 home for 3 months. Now I'm trying to upgrade to windows 10 anniversary. This is where I'm having all the trouble. I've updated all drivers, PC is compatible. The upgrade runs to the point where it's setting up everything, almost to the end, then crashes and re-installs my previous version. I also ran chkdisk and found no errors.

Try reading the Windows update log:
Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW (Event Tracing for Windows).
Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log.

    As before:
Some people find that doing an in-place upgrade repair install of your existing version first may help.

What would it cost you to do a clean install, bearing in mind people here often comment that leftovers from an upgrade can cause undesirable problems?

You could for about £38 buy a program that will transfer your programs and settings to a new installation (rather than doing it all manually).

A neighbour has asked me to update W10 Build 1511 to Build 1607 on her laptop which originally came with W7.

Have just spent an entire wasted day, each time the update goes ahead, then an hour or so later reverts back to 1511.
No updates are available with 1511 so that cannot be the reason why it cannot proceed, have performed chkdisc.

Her computer it would appear is somewhat messed up, Powershell or Command prompt admin operated so slowly as to render them useless, all 902 photos and documents were all filed in downloads, so finding the downloaded ISO proved impossible to locate as they were all changed to icons with no other available options.

All backups were installed on "C" and as she only used the O/S plus 1.1GB of space on the hard drive, yet 85GB of space is used up.

My question what is the best way to get out of this mess.

Run chkdsk & check SMART params to make sure it's worth continuing.
Back up everything that isn't properly backed up- I guess you've done that.

Try it- if you're an optimist, that is. Don't bother with SFC, DISM...

But if too much has been messed about with, sometimes you end up having to bite the bullet and clean install as you know...*Sick

Would that take a huge amount of time? .. if not too many programs installed.. best option.

Three unsuccessful attempts at clean install.....too many conflicting programmes.....MIGRATE-DATA operation.....0xc1900101-ox2000d.

Have tried M$ safe mode suggestions without success.....only one option left.....reinstall O/S, on new SSD, hopefully by not having to load a W7 disc and upgrading.

Have suggested replacing HDD with an SSD.....is it possible to clean install a W10 ISO on a new SSD?....as the original HDD loaded with W10 will not be connected.

Have you formatted the drive and wiped everything? - I'm wondering how you can have conflicting programs with a clean install.. and there's nothing to migrate..?

As to swapping the drive... best way is to have just the one drive in you wish to install windows onto.

If you have a different drive with Windows already on it, with an active primary partition, then you won't get the result you want.

What would you hope to gain from the old drive being present?

A clean install means you'll then have to reinstall programs, configure settings, move data back as necessary..

And you should be able to simply clean install the current build. There's no need to go back to '7 - that would be a really bad move. Your activation is tied to your hardware, so a clean install is fine.

Use a boot medium for Win 10 anniversary. Then you've got that for recovery, in-place upgrade install.... should you need it.

Thank you for replying....you are misunderstanding, perhaps I'm not making myself clear.

The HDD is clapped out and your above points are irrelevant.
What I wish to know is......Taking out the knackered HDD which had W10 already installed and authenticated, and replacing it with a BLANK SSD, this is a laptop.

Is it possible to install on the new SSD W10 1607 using the Windows Media ISO, and does the DVD ISO get me ONLINE in order to install.

PS....in other words do you have to be inside Windows for it to install an ISO.

No, you don't have to be inside Windows to install the ISO. You need to be inside the ISO to installs. That is for what have been said as clean install.

Burn the ISO to DVD or insert it to USB and boot it.

    Sorry if I misunderstood.

No, you haven't understood what I have said, or I haven't made myself clear enough.

Clean install Win 10 from a bootable Win 10 medium.
Using an iso you can mount it having logged in, then you can upgrade, repair install...
As you should know, the system restarts 2 or 3 times during installation: a mounted disk content it held in RAM so... no.

As my points are deemed irrelevant given your puzzling comments about migrating data, I'll leave you with it. Good uck!

Please reread my earlier posts.....3 times I mounted an ISO....THREE.

I'm sorry you have taken umbrage, it was not my intention....if you had read carefully my posts you would have realised that the points you raised are not applicable

What a pity you had to finish with a sarcastic ending.

I just Upgraded my Dell Venue tablet from Version 1511 to Version 1607. After clearing up the insufficient drive space issue I then got a prompt to update the BIOS so the Dell download took care of that. I still needed a faster way to Upgrade so I copied the .iso file to the D: drive and Mounted it then Selected and Copied all the files to a Folder on the D: drive [named it Win10AU], changed to that Folder and ran setup.exe. It does take awhile but the tablet is working fine. All this to say it worked for me on 2 tablets and may work for others. For the space issue I added a 32GB USB Thumb drive formatted as FAT32, didn't seem to want to work with it as NTFS and it didn't want to work with a 64GB MicroSDXC card which is D:.
