Windows 10: Word and Excel Not Opening and D2d1.dll File Issues

I've been having two issues with my laptop for a few days. The first being every time I start up my laptop, I get an error message saying "The code execution cannot proceed because d2d1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may help." I'm not entirely sure what that means but the only thing I've uninstalled since this started happening is McAfee (I have Bullguard now).


My second problem is that whenever I try to open Word or Excel, absolutely nothing happens. No error messages, no opening and then crashing, and I don't see any signs of them trying to load.


The only thing I can think of that might have caused this, is that after my free 1 year McAfee trial was up, I uninstalled it and downloaded Bullguard.


Any suggestions/solutions are much appreciated.

I'm not able to open Windows live mail and Photo because it says "windows\system32\d2d1.dll is either not designed to run or contains an error" error code 0xc000012f

I ran the sfc /scannow and below are some of the results. This issue started after the KB4015438 updated. I have tried to remove this update and it wont remove

d2d1.dll not working


Hi, I have been having some troubles starting programs because of an error with d2d1.dll. The programs crash on startup with the error 'd2d1.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error'. I have tried SFC /scannow and it says there are corrupt files that need repairing but it fails to do so. I looked at the logs and it seems to be d2d1.dll as well as memory diagnostics tool. I have also tried replacing the file but it won't let me in system 32 as its being used by other programs or processors. How do I resolve this as it's affecting multiple applications. Thanks.

No, I haven't been able to resolve my issue and I am very disappointed that I can no longer use Windows Live Mail.

I am also sorry that this answer is so long. I just don't know what is helpful information and what isn't.
