Windows 10: Word is highlighting all text

Word has just started highlighting all text in documents so that I cannot edit at all. Sometimes I can open up a new blank Word doc and click on the page and then switch back to the document I am working on and then I can make edits for a bit before it highlights all the text again. I can't even switch documents easily e.g., if I click on the Word icon to see open docs, if I click on the doc I want nothing happens: I have to tab through screens to get to the document. How can this be fixed? I am working on Windows 10.

Editing text instead of highlighting a word.

How do I edit text? If I try to move the curser to the middle of a word it just highlights the word?

On my old phone I could precisely choose where to put the curser and change letters on any word I've typed, on the windows phone if I click anywhere on the word it just gets highlighted and I cant edit it other than deleting or choosing a suggested word.

Its pretty annoying that the phone does not allow me to edit as I go along.

Any ideas/

• Have you attempted to perform any of the troubleshooting?

In the meantime, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• On the Cortana search box, type Typing Settings and press
  Enter.
• Turn off Autocorrect misspelled words and Highlight misspelled words.
• Restart your PC.
• Do steps 1 and 2 but this time turn on Autocorrect misspelled words
  and Highlight misspelled words.
• Restart your PC.
• Check if the issue still exists.

Problem with highlighting text to cut or copy in Word

Microsoft Word, Windows 8. I often copy and paste things within a document. My problem is that after I block the text (highlight it) and right click to copy the text the highlighting goes away. It takes about three tries before it stays highlighted so
that I can copy or cut the text. It's frustrating and means that everything takes longer. It didn't used to do this. I'm not sure what has changed
