What am I doing wrong??? I used to be a network manager on a 250 node network. Why is this so hard?! Now I'm just trying to use Windows 10 Workgroup to share files and storage between 2 or 3 computers. ROADBLOCK!

I just got a new laptop, connected via wifi to my router which is connected to my ethernet wired desktop which has a large harddrive with 100's of Gigs of files I want to access/share. I can ping one computer to the other and both can ping the router. In advanced sharing settings I've turned on network discovery and file and printer sharing for private and public, and turned on Public sharing for all networks and turned off password protected sharing.

If I set up media streaming then I can see (and stream) my music files from one to the other.

I tried changing the name of the workgroup and rebooting many times to reset.

Any ideas how to proceed? Is there a checklist for workgrouping? resources on the web make it seem like it should be a no-brainer...

    Thanks for any ideas!

    :)
