Windows 10: Working Internet Connection showis as Unidentified Network

....... my internet connection is working, but shows as unidentified network (see screenshot).

How do I get it identified ...?...

Internet connection works but still "Unidentified Network"

My wireless internet works but just saw when checking control panel/network connections  it says — unidentified network. There are lots of discussions about "Unidentified Network" but it is always about that there is no internet access whatsoever. My
tech hotline just said that this is a Microsoft issue. Network driver is Realtek (10.8.311.2016). Windows 10, Version 1607, Build 14393.0. Thanks for any suggestion!

 

No Network Access on Ethernet after recent Anniversary Update

My Wifi works fine, but when I connect an Ethernet cable and try to run internet connection through it, the Ethernet says "Unidentified Network/ No Network Access". This only became an issue after the Anniversary Update. How do I get Internet access for
Ethernet back?

The owner of the Network would have to give it a name. It looks like you are using a Cellular network, not a Home Wireless Access point.

I would probably set the Network to Public instead of Private which will change your Firewall posture.

I tried that before, but it makes no difference.

The funny thing is that it identifies in the available connections panel (see screenshot) and also the Mobile Hotsot. panel.







By the way, I can't get Mobile Hotsot to work and thought it might got something to do with the unidentified network.

Anyway, if something comes to mind please let me know .......

Does your vendor allow "Tethering". Some block this ability.

Was it working?

What happens when you turn it on?

When I suggest going to a public network setting it was to protect your machine from other machines on the cellular network.

....... "Tethering" is not the issue, as you can see here.

When you say tethering is not an issue, the link takes me to the same as the second link.

As far as I know tethering is a mobile hot spot and I've seen situations where vendors will not permit. If your allows then this is not your issue. I will see if I come up with something.

I'm not that familiar with tethering, so if I'm way off here forgive/ignore me *Smile

It looks like the endpoint issue you get sometimes with VM adapters where you have to add the *NdisDeviceType = 1 for the particular device in the registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

Under the above key, look for/thru each subkey (000\001\002\etc), checking the DriverDesc
till you find the device in question. In the right pane, Right Click / New / DWORD 32 and type *NdisDeviceType and set it's value to 1.

Note: Don't forget the star *

I can't remember if disable/re-enable the device is all you need or a reboot is required for that reg hack. In case you haven't a done that already *Smile
