If Win7 runs fine on the PC then the problem is likely your install media. Download the ISO again and confirm it completed, then burn the confirmed ISO to disk or stick using tool provided in Clean Install Windows 10 Technical Preview .

What I would do then is shrink Win7 in Disk Mgmt to create a new partition to install the Technical Preview.

Boot into BIOS setup to set the HDD first device to boot, confirm SATA controller is set to AHCI, Save changes and exit.

Now trigger the installer using the Acer F12 or F10 one-time Boot Menu key. At drive selection screen select the space you shrunk from Win7 and Click Next.

    Report back progress.

Probably better to download VMPlayer and install under win 7, win 10 might not like your hardware.

  3. I would go into your BIOS setup menu and check out what your boot order is. On start up it will check each device in the order they are listed for bootable media. I would set the network boot to be the last option or even disable it all together. I normally set my hard drive as the first boot option to speed up the boot process. If I need to boot from an optical drive or thumb drive I use the one time BIOS quick boot menu. If your hard drive is way down in the list your boot times will suffer. Especially if you have an optical disk in the drive or a thumb drive plugged in. The BIOS will check them to see if they are bootable before it ever looks at your hard drive and loads the OS. If you have more than one bootable device plugged in it could be hard to tell what device actually booted up. The less chance for error the better. It sucks to start over because you missed something, or even worse, erased some files you didn't mean to erase.

  5. Hi,
Sounds like if it were the worst install ever you'd be reloading win-7 from disk or having to create a bootable flash media to re-install 7 with *Wink
We'll call it a close call *Smile
Installing 10 inside of 7 is a tricky proposition,
Use a bootable flash media or bootable cd next time for a more consistent/ predictable install unless you want to install on top and replace 7 with 10 that is :/
    Cheers.

If you want to avoid these kinds of problems, run 10 in VMware Player.

  7. OK so where can I download it from and how will it work?

Here is all the information. It was for Windows 8 but it is exactly the same for 10. And here is a little demo I made running Windows 8 in VMware Player. It shows you what the possibilities are.

  10. I have installed windows ten but it takes ages for the setting up personalised settings to finish is this normal?

  11. It says setting up personalized settings for C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\RUNDLL32.EXE
    AND C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\mscories.dll.install

It has taken an hour so far!

    worst installation ever!

FWIW.. I just re-did my Win10TP 9860 dual boot install and the entire process from beginning to end took about 20 minutes at most.
