  1. Write permission denied for non-existent file

    Hello

I have the most peculiar issue. A program that I downloaded from the internet was updated, and the executable of the updated version triggered some heuristic issue with the antivirus Bitdefender and was quarantined and later removed.

There have been even newer versions of this program, and I'd really like to install the program again, but I can't -- at least not in the same location -- because I don't have write permissions to the file.

The file does not exist. I cannot create a file with the name of the executable. If I try, I first get a "File Access Denied". It claims I'll need to provide administrator permission to rename this file. There's a button below with the appropriate Shield and the word "Continue". When I do that, I get a new "File Access Denied" window: "You require permission from FEMTO/holge to make changes to this file." -- Try again or cancel. Trying again and again doesn't do anything.

    I am FEMTO/holge

I have tried to change the permissions directory-wide, but that doesn't change anything.

I can rename the directory name, then create the file, then copy the directory back, then I have the file. When I look at the permissions, nothing sticks out to me. Both my normal user and Administrator have full access.

But the next time I'm trying to save, it fails again, and the file disappears.

I'm at my wit's end. What can I try?

    Thank you

    Best regards,

    Holger

    :)

  2. How to Customize File Sharing Permissions to Create/Modify/Delete FILES... but not FOLDERS?

Hello. I need to customize a shared folder on my network so that one user (Reba) can create, append, modify, delete all FILES within that folder and subfolders... but Reba should not be able to create or delete the FOLDERS.

I've tested various configurations, and the closest I've been able to come is to create
TWO sets of Advanced permissions for Reba:

    1. The first instance of Reba, is ALLOWED, applied to "This folders and subfolders,"

    • Traverse folder / execute file
    • List folder / read data
    • Read attributes
    • Read extended attributes
    • Create files / write data
    • Write attributes
    • Write extended attributes
    • Delete subfolders and files
    • Read permissions
But Reba is DENIED permissions of:

    • Full control
    • Create folders / append data
    • Delete
    • Change permissions
    • Take ownership

    2. The second instance of Reba, is ALLOWED, applied to "Files Only:"

    • Traverse folder / execute file
    • List folder / read data
    • Read attributes
    • Read extended attributes
    • Create files / write data
    • Create folders / append data
    • Write attributes
    • Write extended attributes
    • Delete subfolders and files
    • Delete
    • Read permissions
But Reba is DENIED permissions of:

    • Full control
    • Change permissions
    • Take ownership

The above configuration does deny Reba the ability to create folders/subfolders... but ALLOWs her to delete folders (which I do NOT want her to be able to do).

Denying delete permission on windows 10.

    Hi,

    I just found something interesting...

There was nothing I could do to prevent a Text file from being deleted...

BUT... I noticed in the process was mentioning FOLDERS...

I created a new folder, and then a new Text file in the folder...

As mentioned, I went into the ADVANCED screen, disabled Inheritance, clicked on the three accounts that were listed, and unchecked "Write"...

This also unchecked Full and Modify...

I was then denied permission to delete the folder, and when I then opened the folder, I was denied permission to delete the text file...
