    How to get rid off .writeme Virus?

    It changed all my file name extensions (Audio format, Video format, Photo format, App format) into .writeme format. I tried to rename some of the file extensions to previous format and it's not working at all.


    Now i want to decrypt my all please help me to recover this data

    Before we assist you let us know few details,


          • Did you made any changes to your computer prior to the issue?

          • Have you created any system restore point on your computer?

    As initial troubleshooting steps I suggest you to install the latest windows 10 updates, please follow the steps to install all the windows updates.

    If you want to check for the update now, select the Start button, then select
    Settings > Update & security >
    Windows Update > Check for updates.

    We suggest you to try changing the visual effect setting. To Change your Visual Effects Settings in Advanced System Settings refer the below steps,


    • Press Windows logo key+ X

    • Click on Control panel

    • Select System and Security

    • Click on System

    • And select System protection

    • Select Advanced tab and click on
      Settings

    • Now select the option Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer
      option.

    And check if this helps to resolve the issue.

    I am using asha 201. Will my phone be effected by virus when I taking data via Bluetooth from any other phone which is effected in virus.

    Well, I'm sorry to hear that it's a WD My Passport that failed on you, @tomhenry ! *Frown .writeme virus effect all my data in system :(
    I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
    I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics.
