  1. Wrong Keyboard layout - reverts to US Eng Layout after restart/ boot

I recently had an issue with my version of Office that seems to have done something utterly bizarre to my Windows 10. I am a UK user so have my language and keyboard layouts set to UK English in my Settings... However since a strange error when writing a document in word occurred, upon boot or after a restart...The Keyboard input defaults to US English and Keyboard layout, yet settings insists it is all UK??? I have to reset it manually using the ENG in the task bar by the notification area. This of course then reverts when I shut down, or restart. It is becoming more than just an annoyance and since I changed my preferred Anti virus from SuperAnti-Spyware to Sophos Home... the problem has since got worse, in as much as, it now will revert to US English and Keyboard while I am typing and it is only because the UK Keyboard layout has the quotes on the 2 key that I notice the change has occurred when I get @ signs instead. Is there a way to fix this, tried a Windows reset after backing up all my files, but that didn't work... Was one of the last Updates to blame or are Microsoft deliberately trying to piss users off and force them over to Apple Macs?

    :)

Cannot remove ENG US keyboard in Windows 10

    Hey everyone,

I prefer using the English International keyboard layout. That's my default and I've even removed the standard English US keyboard layout in the settings menu. However, for some reason it doesn't go away. The language selector remains in my task bar, and
will even occasionally switch to ENG US on its own. As you can imagine, that gets very frustrating.

Following a suggestion from another post, I've even tried a clean boot and turning on services one by one, but that hasn't gotten rid of the ENG US layout.

Can anybody help me? How can I get rid of the English US keyboard layout for good?

Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator added an unwanted layout

    Hi Robert,

Thanks. I want to avoid having 3 different layouts because in case I miss one, it's not the problem to return to the previous one, but the fact that I typed in the wrong letter, which needs to be delete, then the shortcut for layout switching pressed twice
now, so it breaks the concentration.

The default layout was US QWERTY and I need that one and the Serbian one. When creating a modified layout the base was Serbian layout so I genuinely have no idea where the UK came from.

When I remove all languages but Serbian (US Eng was a default one), I'm left with two keyboard layouts, Serbian and UK Extended.

If I add English UK language and replace its UK ENG with UK ENG EXT keyboard layout, I have 1 Serbian and 2 UK layouts.

When I add US again, and remove Serbian, my modified Serbian layout disappears (as expected), but UK EXT remains.

So, UK remains in the system as a layout, even though I cannot see it listed under any language.

If I uninstall the package I used to install the modified Serbian layout, the UK EXT remains.

It's really persistent Wrong Keyboard layout - reverts to US Eng Layout after restart/ boot :)

Done. This overrides any default input language settings forcing Windows to use your preferred UK English keyboard layout.

  5. Tried that... DIDN'T work. It's not associated with just any one program. It appears to be Windows itself. All attempts to get Windows to default, even though the correct language and keyboard settings are set as default, are overridden the moment there is a reset, a program is closed, or I restart windows. The default language and keyboard drops back to the US English and Keyboard . This has to be down to a recent Update, The system has been purged several times now by my Antivirus (I now use Spohos Home and Malwarebytes), and there are no signs of any malicious softwares etc. So it has to be a recent update, but Windows will not let me uninstall any of the updates (That is also a new "feature" that wasn't there before). What are Microsoft playing at. If I have to back up all of my programs and files, seek out all their installs again and rebuild this computer from scratch... I'm going to be sending them a Bill for the time I waste in UNDOING what they have done. And possibly an additional charge as compensation for all the inconvenience I have been put through already. Maybe then they'll be a little more careful before releasing their updates. I urge others to try this route. If they want us to continue using their OS, there has to be some give and take.
Anymore shenanigans and I'll be moving to a more reliable OS... Linux!

  6. SOLVED IT... I kept the UK English language file and UK keyboard layout and deleted the US English language file and Keyboard layout. Did a restart and forced Windows to use the only language, location and Keyboard settings that were available. But I shouldn't have needed to do this, whoever screwed up with the update that caused all my grief, Karma is waiting in the wings, probably with a very large mallet!
