    WSL2 & VMWare compatibility issues


    After upgrading to WSL2 (which seems to enable Hyper-V features through the "Virtual Machine Platform" features, even if "Windows Hypervisor Platform" is left unchecked), I haven't been able to run VMWare, getting the error "VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible". Resolution to this problem points toward disabling Hyper-V, which seem to conflict with the WSL2 installation.

    Any way around this without removing WSL2?

    Have you experienced this issue?

    Additional info:

    Windows 10 Home Version 2004

    Hyper-V services are present but not running

    "Virtualisation-based security" is running in System Information

    I request you to try running the VMware with admin rights.

    Follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    • Right click on VMware.
    • Select Run as administrator.

    That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

    At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

    We understand that you get an error “device credential guard are not compatible” when launching VMware after installing KB4515871 update on the computer.



    We would suggest you to try disabling Hyper-V by using the following command and see if that helps.



    1. Type Command Prompt in the
      search bar       on the Taskbar.
    2. Right click on the Command Prompt icon and select
      Run as administrator.
    3. Now, paste the following command and hit Enter:
      bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
    4. Restart the computer.
