Windows 10: Xbox One Controller Range Reduction After Firmware Update

Hi,


I have my Windows 10 Pro 1909 18363.720 system hooked up to my TV and I was using Xbox One controllers wirelessly.

The distance from the Asus BT-400 Bluetooth dongle to the seating area is about 4.2m 14' away.

When the controllers were fresh out of the box, firmware 3.X..., I had no issues playing games from the seating area. However, one of the two controllers would not keep a connection sometimes, the other one was rock solid. I decided to do a firmware update using the Xbox Accessories app and both controllers were updated to firmware 4.8.1923.0.

Now both controllers connect without issue. The problem is now the responsive range has been cut in half! I cannot sit in front of the TV and play. The controller stays connected, but any of the buttons I press either sometime register, don't register, or linger/gets stuck like I'm holding it down. If I move close to my PC, the responsiveness comes back.


Is there anyway to fix this? I know the controllers are capable of the range, but something got messed up. It's been somewhat impossible to play Halo MCC on the TV in all its grandeur like it deserves.

Xbox One controller being recognized as a 360 Controller
