Windows 10: you don't have currently access to this folder

I can not get access to any external USB connected drive.

I have tried all options and scanned youtube etc to change access rights nothing works.

Tried your suggestion but the Controlled folder access toggle switch is greyed out. Thanks for your response.

I know this question has been asked many times before as I`ve read all the answers and with my very limited knowledge I cannot understand many of the procedures to resolve the problem.



I can read all the files on the External Drive but the error message appears as soon as I click to open a folder or document.



I had to re-install the entire contents of my old PC, it failed, to a new one and at first access to the drive was there, the next it wasn`t. All I was doing was re-installing the software I had been using on the old PC, and moving items to the drive
now causing problems. It was still working at that point.

I did a system restore but that achieved nothing except having to reload all my programs.



Is there someone out there who can provide a simple step by step, without using any jargon, to help an idiot resolve this very frustrating problem.



Any help would be very much appreciated.

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder


Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

• I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

• Then I tried to remove the Pictures folder with option one at Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials. Even after rebooting, the Pictures folder remained.
• So I tried using option two. Same thing: reboot >> Pictures folder still there.

• Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.

That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.
