    My hard drive is bugged to where it thinks that I am not an administrator and that I don't have permission to modify my hard drive. Every time I try to download or update a game, or modify and delete a file, it says I don't have permission to perform this action. On steam it says that the steam folder is currently not writable, on Epic Games it says I don't have permission to write in that folder, and in Uplay it says download failed. I googled it and tried the method where you go to properties and go to security and put that everyone has full control, but when I click apply it says I don't have permission to do it *facepalm*. It appears to only be happening on my 2 TB hard drive where I store my computer applications and games. Installing and updating on my 128GB SSD still works. Please help! Thanks in advance.

    I don't know what you mean "Go to the computer that you do have permission". The computer that I'm using doesn't grant me permission to copy a file. I have done the routine that you suggest using the properties dialog.

    Hi,

    I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
    folder with your username and follow these steps:

    • Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
    • Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
    • Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
    This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.

    Microsoft clearly just hates the customers. After working fine for months, if I want to move a file from one computer to another on the homegroup- you need permission to perform this action.

    Well that is crap. There is no way to get the permission!!!! I don't need permission to toss all these machines in the garbage and go back to apple. BAH!!!!
