You Require Permission From System to Make Changes to this Folder

    Hello,

this is simply an update to a thread I had opened in July 7 2020, which unfortunately didn't get any solution from Microsoft/Windows thank you, the only participant provided a very long complicated solution that in the end didn't solve the problem, and concluded with "I would recommend you not to delete anything from those folders, those files are used by system and deleting those files may cause issues with your OS."

However because this is my PC and not the PC of Microsoft of Windows, I do whatever I want with it, included delete system files. I told myself I would got back on the problem as soon as possible and because other two people had the same problem, here is the very simple solution I found online:

    1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-nMz2pt1HI&ab_channel=troubleshooterrors
    2. https://www.maketecheasier.com/access-windowsapps-folder-windows-10/#:~:text=To%20change%20it%2C%20click%20on,fill%20in%20the%20object%20name.

Basically, right click on folder/file -> properties -> security click advanced. Do not try to assign a new ownership, remove all the ownerships one by one and then add yourself, at this point you can delete the annoying file that you couldn't most likely because you didn't have anymore the installer file.
If it is a subfolder, bare in my that the ownership may come as inheritance from the main folder, so you'll need to remove all the inheritance.

    Cheers!

    :)

  3. System Permission required

    Hi Peter,

The message that you've encountered when deleting the USERS folder can be due to a permission set on it. To change the permission of the affected folder, follow these steps:

    • Right click the the parent folder.
    • Select Properties.
    • Select the Security tab.
    • Click Edit to change the permission.
    • Select the new owner, and then put a check mark in the Full
      control box.
    • Click Apply, then OK.
    • Once you're done, the folder can now be deleted.

Let us know should you need further assistance.

  4. You Require Permission From System to Make Changes to this Folder

Unable to delete a particular folder. Error: "You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this folder."

Windows Edition 10 Version 1809, OS build 18272.1000

After installing the latest creators update I have the following issue. When using Explorer to delete a folder that is not empty I always get this issue: "You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this folder." It doesn't matter
if I just created it or not. I can remove the folder just fine using rmdir <folder> /s /q.

    Steps to reproduce the issue:

    1. Using explorer create the folder c:\users\rob\a\b\c.
    2. Using explorer try to delete folder c:\users\rob\a.
      1. It fails with "You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this folder."
    3. Using explorer delete the folder c:\users\rob\a\b\c -works just fine
    4. Using explorer delete the folder c:\users\rob\a\b -works just fine
    5. Using explorer delete the folder c:\users\rob\a -works just fine.

This will also reproduce the issue

    1. mkdir c:\users\rob\a
    2. mkdir c:\users\rob\a\b
    3. mkdir c:\users\rob\a\b\c
    4. Using explorer try to delete folder c:\users\rob\a.
      1. It fails with "You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this folder."

This is a new behavior and is causing some build tools to fail.

    Thanks,

    Rob
