Windows 10: ""You require permission to perform this action"

    I have a folder which I want to delete (it was copied from another folder.)


    I get the message. As indicated from previous similar, I right click on the folder, properties, security, edit, add Full Control Allow to Everyone, Apply, OK. Still same message. When I look the Fulll Control is blank, not ticked. Do same but add Full Control to the Administrator (Me). Still does not work.


    Finally go to Advanced, where I see a Deny Line for Everybody, which I delete,


    Now it works.


    What an absolute waste of my time - none of the help relies I search gives this information, nor does the error message.

    It should simply say - "CheckSecurity permissions advanced"


    Microsoft is getting worse not better.

    I don't know what you mean "Go to the computer that you do have permission". The computer that I'm using doesn't grant me permission to copy a file. I have done the routine that you suggest using the properties dialog.

    • Do let us know if you have logged-in as an administrator to your computer?
    • How many user account is there on your computer?
    • From when are you facing this issue?
    • Does this issue specific to any particular file/ folder?

    No permissions

    Hi,

    I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
    folder with your username and follow these steps:

    • Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
    • Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
    • Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
    This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.
