Windows 10: Your PIN is required to sign in.

Once in a while I can't use my fingerprint reader.


I get the message below stating: "Your PIN is required to sign in."

Below another message says: "So sing in, scan your finger in the fingerprint reader"


After I log in with my PIN I can lock the computer and use the fingerprint thereafter.


I know that phones sometimes require PIN when I've left it on a table for a while.

This device is a desktop with the fingerprint reader connected to a USB hub, though I've also tried connecting it directly to the font panel USB ports with the same result.


Why is my PIN required, how can I control the reason or sensitivity to requiring a PIN?

Is there any log I can see why and when the PIN was required?


The fingerprint reader is a cheap USB device that worked out of the box with Windows Hello.

Remove sign in pin

I suggest you to follow the below steps to remove the sign in pin/password options.

• In the search box type sign-in-option.
• Click on the sign-in-option.
• Then you can find password/pin/picture password.
• There you can remove the option and check.

Windows 10 PIN Sign-in

• Which build and version of Windows 10 is installed on your computer?
• Which build and version of Windows 10 are you using before reinstalling Windows?
• Have you tried resetting your PIN?
• Did you get any error messages after you verified the PIN you entered?

PIN is now being required to logon

If you're having trouble using your PIN to sign into Windows, you can try resetting your PIN. Kindly check this
link regarding PIN sign-in issues.

If that doesn't work. We suggest resetting your PC.

Warning: Following these steps will remove all of your data, programs, and settings

• 
  Start your PC and select the Power icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the lock screen.
  
• 
  While holding down the Shift key, select Restart.
  
• 
  On the Boot options menu, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Remove everything.
  
• 
  Your PC will restart and will reset itself.
