Windows 10: Zip Drives on Windows 10

WOW! What's up with all the hate? Just because you don't use zip drives doesn't mean others can't. Yeah, it's old tech, but it's old tech some want to use. How is that bother to you?

 

Definitely a hardware support issue on modern boards for the reasons above. And yeah, a USB drive would (should) work.

 

I have an IDE Zip 250 drive that works perfectly fine within Windows 10. I connected it to an old mobo to see what was on some drivers.

No hate, but I'd consider just using USB flash drives. They are actually more reliable than Zip, are much faster, and are far more convenient to use.

I was curious as to the poster's use of Zip 100 cartridges, whether it was for nostalgia or whether there was data to be recovered.

If the poster would like to backup the Windows partition on a few hundred Zip 100 cartridges, that'd be OK with me. I still wouldn't call it practical.

 

For clarity, I wouldn't use zip disks either, and I have about 50 or so new ones just sitting in my garage along with a USB Zip Drive.

Anyway my response was to the way you initially addressed the OP. But yeah, I see no use for Zip disks when thumb drives are readily available and dirt cheap. But that's me.

As I said, I mostly need them for helping my clients recover data. The big shame with the Zip drives was the 750MB version was too late after CD-burning caught on with the 650MB discs. Adding to that was they could read/write the 250MB disk but read-only of the 100MB disk.
