How to Add or Remove Customize tab in Folder Properties in Windows


The Customize tab in the properties of a folder or non-OS drive allows you to change the folder icons if a supported option for the folder.

To open the Customize tab, you can right click or press and hold on a folder or non-OS drive, and click/tap on Properties.

You can also right click or press and hold on the background of a open folder or non-OS drive, and click/tap on Customize this folder to open the Customize tab.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Customize tab in folder properties and Customize this folder context menu for all users in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

*Warning You must be signed in as an administrator to add and remove the Customize tab in folder properties.


EXAMPLE: "Customize" tab in folder properties and "Customize this folder" context menu









Here's How:

1. Do step 2 (add) or step 3 (remove) below for what you would like to do.


2. To Add "Customize" tab in folder properties and "Customize this folder" context menu
*note This is the default setting.
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

3. To Remove "Customize" tab in folder properties and "Customize this folder" context menu
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6. When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7. You could now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

Folder Properties dialong - "customize" tab is no longer available (Windows 10)

I was looking to customize a folder's icon. In the past, you could do this by right-clicking on the folder and display the properties.

One of the tabs displayed was "Customize". However, I noticed that tab is no longer displayed. Has the ability to customize a folder icon changed? Or has this feature been removed? Thanks for any information that can be provided.

 

Security tab in folder properties just disappeared

• Is the issue specific to any particular file or folder?

I suggest you to restore the Folder properties to default and check if it helps.

Steps:-

• Windows Key + E and click View.
  
• Select Option and choose "Change folder and search options"
• Go to View tab and Restore defaults.
  

If you still face the issue, try running a System File Checker (SFC) Scan on the system and check if it helps.

System file check is a utility built into the Operating System that will check for system file corruption the
sfc /scannow command (System File Check) scans the integrity of all protected operating system files and replaces incorrect, corrupted, changed, or damaged versions with the correct versions where possible.

Downloads folder is the Documents folder

I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

Step 1:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Download folder.
• Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

Step 2:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Documents folder.
• Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.

This issue might occur if there is change in folder settings.

• Is the issue occurring with all the folder?
• Have you tried to create a new folder and checked its properties?

I suggest you to create a new folder on the computer and check its properties for Share tab.
