Windows 10: Add or Remove Microsoft Edge Favorites in Windows 10

Great job Brink. Since EDGE favorites are such a mess being able to once again delete all of them and then somewhat cleanly being able to re-import IE favorites is a joy. Mass manual deletions is a real pain, but I've had to do it several times to save my remaining sanity.

 

Thank You. The batch file worked like a charm for me. Imported IE favorites successfully afterwards.

Starting in in Windows 10 Insider Preview build 10565, your favorites in Microsoft Edge are now stored in an ESE database file instead of the previous Favorites folder.

They have done away with the regular old html listing of favorites in a favorite folder.

Hearing they are working on a method in Edge to manage them, but not ready yet.

Thanks, found it. But just ran the bat to empty favorites, seemed to empty ok. all gone. then did import from IE, but I have 8000 favorites in folder 8 folders deep. Looks maybe 25% of favs came in. Lots of empty folders with 0 items in them. And not in same order as I keep them in in Firefox and IE. But of course with those we can just copy paste the html folders over to each other. This database thingy looks to not quite be ready for prime time.

Yeah, unfortunately the database file doesn't make it easy to edit your favorites for Microsoft Edge in File Explorer like you could for Internet Explorer.

 

I am able to add and remove favorites in Edge, but they are not storing in the folder indicated for edge favorites storage. How can I find where they are?

I checked here:
LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Favorites but nothing is there.

Where are they?

That's the old location where they used to be saved at. The note box at the top of the tutorial can help show you the new location. However, favorites are not editable from this new location.

 

What a confusing muddle Microsoft have created for us to try and understand *Rolleyes

Hope Edge will get a Favorites Manager, which opens in a new tab so editing Favorites is simple again. Just like in Google Chrome and their Bookmarks Manager.

 

We now have a 3rd party Favorites manager for Edge. It manages the new database where they have put the favs in Edge. Seems to work well, I just used it with over 9000 favorites. See articles here.
