All icon images have disappeared, and can't open app properties

All the app icons have disappeared from my desktop, as well as task bar and file Explorer. Where the icon should be is just a blank (but clickable) space.
I tried to manually alter the app icon by right clicking and going into properties, but no properties will open!
I've tried everything I know how, please help. *Sad

    :)

Desktop icon suddenly disappear after reboot

I use windows 10 64 bit home single language, all of a sudden my desktop icons began to disappear after every reboot even though I have "Show Desktop Icons" checked in the desktop properties menu. When I reboot the icons show
for just a moment then disappear, I open desktop properties and uncheck show desktop icons and then recheck the box and they show up again until the next shutdown or reboot.

    Computer breaking icon glitch.

So this is my problem, as you can see, the program names are there, but all the icons, including the taskbar icons, and the icons in file explorer/task manager, are gone, before anyone asks, clicking to hide or show icons just makes the text disappear as
well. When I click on properties of a program, nothing happens. I can't seem to find a similar problem online, so if anyone has any ideas, I'm interested.

Sorry you misunderstood- My taskbar is present, but the app icons on it are not. They all display the default app icon (the little square) when open, and my apps that are pinned to the taskbar are invisible, but you can hover over them and the blank space will be highlighted. My start button is still there.

A screenshot will better describe the issue and prevent misinterpretation.

    Start with this tutorial..................

    1. Rebuild icon cache
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5...dows-10-a.html

    2. If that does not solve the problem, providing you do create restore points in regular basis, run a system restore and pick a date when you did not have this issue as your restore point.
    System Restore Windows 10

    3. If #2 is not applicable to you, then run a system file check to look for corrupt files.
Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.......
    sfc /scannow

    > press Enter.
    It will take quite sometime.
When finished, it will give you one of the 3 reports...............(paraphrasing)
    1. No integrity violation.
    2. Found corrupt files and repair successful.
    3. Found corrupt files but unable to repair.

If the report is #1, your solution lies elsewhere.
If the report is #2, check if your problems have been resolved.
If the report is #3, use this method................
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    > press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.

All icon images have disappeared, and can't open app properties

I have tried step 1 and 2- they made no difference.
Step 3- found corrupt files but unable to repair
I did the restore health command and got this result:

Your dism .......> restorehealth said " source files could not be found" because your ISO has the Install.esd.

You need the Install.wim which can be obtained by downloading the ISO from Tech Bench.

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench

Once you have the iso downloaded, right click at the ISO > click Mount > leave it there.

Then open the elevated command prompt and copy and paste this................

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:H:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

Note : H is the drive where the iso is mounted. Change it if your driver letter is different.

When it is completed, you should get the report that the operation is successful.
Now run the sfc /scannow again. It should be ok this time.

    Run the sfc again.
It is known that one needs to do it at least 3 times.
