Windows 10: another problem with upgrade

Discus and support another problem with upgrade in Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade to solve the problem; Wow, this should not be so difficult. I am so sorry. As OldMike says, the most recent ISO from TechBench should give you version 1511 from the get go.... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade' started by collieman, Mar 2, 2016.

Maybe I mislead you in the way I said it now that I read it back. I am not back on win 7. I meant that I can go back to win 7 at any time with no difficulty. Meaning that I never had to backup any other partitions along with C. That Tech Bench ISO never validated my download. I wanted to try the link you suggested.....https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9...-download.html as maybe I was doing the wrong thing. As for the version 1511? I checked my version using run/winver and it is 1511. I didn't know there were different versions but it is 1511. So, here is where I am at right now as I write this. I just reinstalled win 10 ver. 1511. I have updates turned off. Have installed some of the apps I use most. Going to see if it works without updating. Just wish I could choose the updates I want to install but Microsoft must know what's best for me.....yea, right. If it works without updating then what do I do? Just use it that way and hope for the best OR go back to 7. Is it this computer? Don't think so. There are a few older laptops that aren't being used anymore, where I used to work that my old boss might let me have. I'd like to experiment with them. They had 7 on them and might be candidates for win 10 upgrades. BTW Thank you guys for your help on this. Appreciate very much.

What I would like you to do NOW is make a Complete Image Backup, using Macrium Reflect. Store this image on another drive, not on your C drive. Image EVERYTHING on your C drive. All partitions. Should be either 3 or 4 partitions on your C drive.
Then run verify on Macruim to check your image. Once this is done, you should be able to restore the OS you are on now, right back to same as it is now. Without having to re-install again.

Then once this is done, THEN you can try updating your Windows 10. The version you should be on is this one.

To find out your version, type Winver in your windows search window.

OldMike65, Way ahead of ya on this one. Already done. C was backed up and verified right after a new install of 10 and running good. Then I used third party software to wipe the C partition and reformat. Then I reinstalled 10 from using the new backup. The backup worked just fine. I have updates turned off. Used the computer til late last night. All went well. Got up this morn. Computer booted right up very fast and still works great. The computer now is unusually "peppy" and responsive. Feels like I have a core I7 with a load of DDR4 in here but, I don't have my apps installed. I will now do the updates and get back to ya. My fingers are crossed. BTY. One thing you said in your previous post was to "Image EVERYTHING on your C drive. All partitions. Should be either 3 or 4 partitions on your C drive". I don't follow you on that one. 3 or 4 partitions on my C drive? Did you mean "hard drive"? I'm only using one (C) partition of 100 gigs now just to eliminate any possible problems. Now, it's updating time.*cry

Yeah, I think he meant, image all partitions on your Drive 0 (which includes C).

Ok, guess I confused you, sorry....here is a pic of my c drive, from Macrium Reflect, notice the 4 partitions each one has a check mark at the bottom . That's what I meant by backing up everything on your C drive. *Smile

The bottom one in the pic is my D-drive, that's where I send all my image backups too. Hope this explains it better. *Smile
