Hello, this issue has just arisen for me today,
gpedit.msc doesn't seem to exist on my edition of Windows 10,
oddly, it seems windows was aware the group policy editor is a thing that exists, it's just not installed.

This is aggravating. I wonder if getting the .msc and dropping it wherever it's meant to be would work, perhaps they just removed the msc from this edition and left the other things behind, thus it appears in search, but isn't actually available.

  3. It seems to be fixed, so my advice is only partially valid. I was going to suggest a clean install if you weren't able to get it working, and would have suggested going with the 64 bit version to fully take advantage of the 6 GB of RAM you have installed.

  5. Not only does it exist, but if you are running a 32-bit version of 7 or 8.1, you'll get the 32 bit version of Windows 10.

Well that makes sense, though I am for definite running 64bit.
All this however isn't helping fix this battery icon issue...

Anyone know how you go about updating your bios? It is really as risky as some websites say? I have the same problems with both the battery icon and the volume icon. The battery icon problem can be temporarily fixed for me by disabling and re-enabling them in Device Manager however, after a restart the problem reoccurs.

Battery and Location Icon in Notification Area missing - Win 10 Pro.

Hmm, can we enable/disable drivers from the command line? We could write a script to do it automatically on start up.
Still a work-around than an actual fix but at least it'd be automatic

Oh i understand what you mean, hmm that would be really clever. I checked Sony's website and they don't seem to have the latest Bios update for Windows 10 or 8 for my laptop...I guess i'll have to be patient and wait to see what happens

Edit: Scratch that, will have to wait until November unfortunately. Sony eSupport - Windows 10 Upgrade information

Hope this helps anyone else with a Sony laptop that is having these icon issues.

Hello, while I was at college today, seems my laptop updated itself, on restart the issue appears to be fixed, so if it's the same for everyone else, this issue is fixed!
    Hurray!

  12. "go to device manager disable both 'microsoft ac adapter' and 'microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery'
    then re-enable them again."

Dis-abling & re-enabling the adapters worked for me but I had to refresh the battery device list (scan for hardware changes) first as only one adapter was showing.

The second device. 'microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery' was missing however once it updated I did as you suggested and works great cheers!

I had the same problem; suddenly no battery icon in the systemtray anymore. What helped with my laptop was just rescanning for changes in the device manager. Before this rescan, no battery device was showing in the battery section, only the AC adapter. After rescanning, the battery popped up, together with the AC adapter. At the same time the battery icon in the systemtray was back there!
