    BCUninstaller failure issue

There are a number of good uninstallers some of which I have tried, but BCU seems to find many programs / apps which others do not list. So it should be a very useful utility but I have a major problem with it, which I have not found a solution to in its Manual or elsewhere. Many programs / apps which I 'uninstall' reappear when the program is restarted. I 'uninstall' thoroughly and not in Silent mode, so I get numerous notifications and reports that it is going well: 'uninstalled', 'deleted', 'cleaned' successfully and so on. The repeated return of 'removed' programs is something different to simply being unable to uninstall a particular program for some specified reason. If a program has been removed how can it reappear again?

I hope someone familiar with BCU can explain.

I prefer Revo Uninstaller except for only it's payed version uninstalls 64bit applications but is worth the money because they keep updating it for free. It cleans up registry and files/folders that ordinary uninstallers leave.

I have used Revo for several years on Windows and Android, but like others eg.Wise, IOBIT I have found apps / programs listed, and uninstalled, by BCU which they do not ---- so it releases more much needed storage space. There is just this odd glitch that some (not most) 'uninstalled' items reappear, eg. iTunes, Konverter, KVC.

An additional point ---- none of the above, nor anything else, are able to find Windows Media Player which I can only access using the Play with / Open with context message option.

    Hi folks
These days why bother with uninstallers -- Current Windows 10 changes a lot so 3rd party suppliers have trouble keeping up.

Simply back up OS before installing stuff then if it doesn't work or you want to get rid of it -- just restore system if standard windows uninstall fails. If a program doesn't uninstall properly you should ask yourself why are you installing stuff that doesn't behave properly with Windows in the first place.

Previous versions of Windows could possibly justify these uninstallers but these days with latest version of W10 -- no way.

On an SSD with Free Macrium restore won't take long even with quite modest hardware. Always keep OS separate from your DATA as well.

    Cheers

It's not a problem with windows, problem is in programs/application and their install/uninstall routine, most do not delete everything they install ad do not clean/delete entries in registry. Some even intentionally leave those traces for their own purposes which may even be nefarious.
Making full disk backup and restoring from it for ordinary things like installing (lesser) SW , although highly recommended, is just not practical for ordinary user for such things. Maybe if you are installing some SW that can make system wide and potentially dangerous programs but for everyday use, highly impractical.
Some programs, mostly AVs, are so well hidden that even Revo can't uninstall it all the way and that's why they have own programs to uninstall (completely) their own products.

    BCUninstaller failure issue

    Hi there.

I still disagree -- unless you are installing stuff nearly every day - and I doubt whether typical user does that a 15 min backup of the OS partition is hardly a problem -- I'd certainly do that before installing any sort of AV software or Antimalware stuff as these types of packages leave stuff all over the place. Same with any games or other stuff that needs dongles or special hardware.

Still it's what I supposed people are used to -- but the more 3rd party stuff that gets into "The kernel" the more chance you have of breaking something or giving your sweet kind friendly neighbourhood hacker a back door.

Typical bog standard application programs generally (> 95%) of the time won't bother windows at all whether you use windows uninstall or the applications uninstaller if one is supplied.

    Cheers

I have found how to correspond with the BCU's Developer --- if I find out something useful I will report it here.

Regarding backing up the system I was going to do so after the Fall update but am having second thoughts. Why should I need to backup now? The OS is saved as a disk image. Almost all my programs / apps, files of all sorts (with a few exceptions) are now on and run from external USB flash drives / memory cards. So why go to the trouble to backup?

"The OS is saved as a disk image" well, that's a backup.

None of them are Windows Store apps. I am going to follow some suggestions from the developer, such as using the uninstall manually option

    BCUninstaller failure issue

Personally I just use BCuninstaller to get an overview of apps including those that do not have an uninstaller. Mostly I use Geek Uninstaller for uninstalls followed by a manual reg cleanup. Also for some programs the way to uninstall is check for any running process or service that is created by the program you want to uninstall and make sure that they are stopped before the uninstall.

Well, they wouldn't, would they - it's not 'installed' as such.

Like Internet Explorer, the Windows Media Player is a built in feature of Windows 10. You add or remove it by managing Windows features.

*Arrow Turn Windows Features On or Off in Windows 10

I have it on Start's 'All apps' list as 'Windows Media Player'. If you don't see it on Start, try removing it then putting it back again.

*ArrowInstall or Uninstall Windows Media Player in Windows 10
