Windows 10: Blue Screen of Death (Crash) When Playing Games

1) For the memtest86+ version 5.01 please post an image into the thread of the test results.

2) Remove all RAM modules except 1 module and boot > report results into the thread.
Test 1 RAM module with Memtest86+ version 5.01 for 8 or more passes.
Use a camera or smart phone camera to take a picture and post an image into the thread.

3) Create a bootable windows 10 iso:
Download Windows 10

4) Disconnect wireless with hardware off, disconnect ethernet or cat5e cable, and turn off router/modem.

5) Clean install Windows 10 deleting all partitions > make unallocated drive > install windows 10 without updating driver.

This should be a clean install "vanilla type": Only windows without updates or computer manufacturer drivers.

6) Evaluate windows with windows updates.

7) If the clean install vanilla types producs BSOD then remove graphics card using integrated intel graphics.

8) The clean install vanilla type and the removal of the graphics card steps should be done with only 1 RAM module that passed with 8 or more passes.

 

For some unknown reason, I can no longer boot to memtest. The screen goes black and then back to the bios.

I took the hd out and completely wiped it and did a vanilla install of windows. Windows installed fine from the disk this time, but bsod upon setting up after restart.

I ran with only 1 dimm and tried all 4. No change. I took the gpu out and ran the display from the mb. Still no change.

If you have fast boot or ultra fast boot enabled in your UEFI firmware settings, then you will need to temporarily disable fast boot or ultra fast boot to be able to boot from a USB.

1. Try another USB stick
2. Try all USB ports (2.0 and 3.0)
3. Maybe when using UEFI Bios you have to temporarily switch to Legacy in BIOS settings
4. Turn off temporarily fast boot, secure boot, CSM if enabled

 

Ok. Should I be installing windows on an mbr or gpt formatted hd? I have a uefi mb. When I went to install the first time windows said it could not because I had a gpt formatted hd. I just tried to install again and it said windows had to be installed on a gpt hd because I had uefi.

Windows is booting now for whatever reason, but crashes often. Grabbed some dump files quickly.

 

In post #23 Avira was uninstalled.
Was there an alternative AV installed?
If so when?

 

1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
chkdsk /x /f /r
This may take many hours so plan to run overnight.
Run this command on every partition using the syntax: chkdsk /x /f /r c: or chkdsk /x /f /r d: changing the drive letter c or d to the applicable drive letter.

2) Run HDTune: (all drives)
HD Tune website
to check the health,
scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
run a benchmark.
It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following
the health,
the error scan,
the benchmark incl. following
transfer rate,
access time,
burst rate,
cpu usage.

3) Uninstall Avast:

4) Turn on Windows defender

5) During the troubleshooting process only use Windows defender

6) The best way to fix the misbehaving Nvidia driver is to uninstall everything Nvidia using Display driver uninstaller and install new drivers from the computer manufacturer's website or from the Nvidia website.The computer manufacturer's web site is preferred. Enter the computer's serial or product number and the operating system to view available drivers.
If you use the Nvidia web site be sure the "clean install" box is checked and only install the graphics driver and the physx driver.

7) In the left lower corner search type system > open system control panel > on the left pane click advanced system settings > under startup and recovery click settings > under system failure un-check automatically restart

there is literally nothing on my comp right now except geforce experience and some basic drivers i downloaded. 7zip is on here.

 

These numbers look ok to you?

 

128 degrees motherboard ?

 

In the bios (obviously not under load) the mb temp is 25c. Avast did install, must have come attached to 7 zip or something. Its gone now.

 

Avast comes bundled with CCleaner now days.
