Windows 10: BSOD 2-10min after Win10 update (nvlddmkm.sys/ntoskrnl/pci.sys)

Discus and support BSOD 2-10min after Win10 update (nvlddmkm.sys/ntoskrnl/pci.sys) in Windows 10 BSOD Crashes and Debugging to solve the problem; wonder what we did with all our spare time before computers and in particular WinDoze came along LOL Discussion in 'Windows 10 BSOD Crashes and Debugging' started by Artist, Aug 12, 2015.

Well I came to the conclusion that it's due to faulty Win10 NVIDIA drivers and that the only way to fix it is to wait for new drivers. I disabled my GPU and I don't crash with my Intel chip-set (but can't run everything any more).

Tried 353.49 to 355.60 (2015.8.13) with the same result. I'll update when they release a new version and I've tested it.

just uninstall GeForce experience so it doesn't clash with MS updates ( they fight each other for the best driver) uninstall nvidia drivers etc and let MS check for updates, or youncan use god mode to turn off MS driver updates and use GeForce experience instead.....common issue for nvidia GPU........

    Hi Artist,

I'm very sorry for the delay, there aren't many people in this section.
I also thought you were helped from one of us (BSOD Team), because your thread is a long time ago removed from the unanswered thread. Even longer then that I'm active in this section.

Please use the tool again, upload the zip file and I'll take a look at it for you *Smile

    EDIT:
For information, usually we only look at threads that have 0 (zero) answers, because then we know they don't have gotten any help yet.

It's fine. Sadly I don't think you can do anything to help me, I'm just updating the thread with my driver tests for info. If you go have a look at the NVIDIA reddit you'll see new TDR posts daily and NVIDIA acknowledged the issue already: Trikle comments on Discussing the recent Win10 driver crashes . At this point it seems waiting for a stable driver is the only thing to do *Sad .

    BSOD 2-10min after Win10 update (nvlddmkm.sys/ntoskrnl/pci.sys)

The cause is the driver of your GPU or your GPU or services from software.

    Please do the following:
    • Search msconfig and open it
    • Go to the tab services
    • Check 'Hide Microsoft services'
    • See if there is a service called Nvidia Streaming Kernel service or Nvidia Streamer Service
    • If there is a service, uncheck it
    • Click apply > ok
    • Reboot if asked

Please check your manufacturer for driver updates.

    Yup, I know.

I did, that's the last as of today. 355.82 released on 2015.8.31 .

Won't happen, I crash at most 2min after the GPU kicks in if I enable it again.

According to the information in the dumps you have a driver from 2015.8.25.
    Please update your driver

  11. Artist Win User
These ARE the latest drivers, the nvlddmkm.sys time stamp doesn't necessary match the release date of the whole package, that one came with the 355.82 drivers, while the 355.80 had a nvlddmkm.sys from aug 24. I still have all the install files, you can download the latest NVIDIA drivers and check for yourself, while it has a time stamp of aug 25, the version number from the Driver File Details checks out (10.18.13.5582).

But just for fun I did uninstall the drivers again, and reinstalled the 355.82 WHQL, and forced a crash (a.k.a. starting a HotS game -_-): Attachment 36232

    You mean the program crashes?

Are there other versions of the drivers available at the manufacturer?

    BSOD 2-10min after Win10 update (nvlddmkm.sys/ntoskrnl/pci.sys)

No, not the program, the PC crashes, TDR_VIDEO_FAILURE BSOD. HotS is just an easy way to have the GPU take over from the Intel chipset on my laptop, I could also start steaming a video on Twitch, anything that uses the GPU really.

Yes, there are other versions, I tested them and haven't found one that works. As I posted earlier, I tried all the driver releases from 353.49 to 355.82.

Sorry, I'm busy with a lot of people, sometimes I don't have time to read back.

I'd like to know if there are more drivers involved with this, I don't believe this is only related to the GPU and that these drivers aren't working as they should.

    DRIVER VERIFIER

    BSOD 2-10min after Win10 update (nvlddmkm.sys/ntoskrnl/pci.sys) [IMG]
Warning Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one.
    Please create a restore point.
Please follow this tutorial run driver verifier.

Some windows drivers are blamed in a few crashes, but that usually means that a 3rd party driver is actually the cause.
Driver verifier stresses your drivers and will crash your pc if any driver fails due to a violation.

Driver verifier should be performed for a max of 48 hours, or when you have a bluescreen, whatever comes first.

If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.

    BSOD 2-10min after Win10 update (nvlddmkm.sys/ntoskrnl/pci.sys) [IMG]
Note Your system will act very sluggishly while driver verifier is enabled, this is normal as your drivers will be being subjected to heavy testing in order to make them crash.

Driver Verifier completely freezes my PC after start-up and I can't afford to have it running 48h.

I did try something else though: some people reported a possible conflict between NVIDIA drivers and Realtek HD audio drivers. I tried removing them AND using the last ones (from the sept 6th I think) but it didn't fix the issue.
