Did you try to setup msconfig to disable all non-Microsoft services & start-ups and boot normally? If this did not work it proves that a Microsoft driver or service is causing the bsod.

I believe I disabled Microsoft services, I opted not to hide them and then disabled all, though there were some with ticks I couldn't disabled

Please try the clean boot tutorial again and follow the steps exactly and let me know what happens. Disabling all the Microsoft services is not the way to do it.

I think the problem I might have running the logger is that this is a surface pro book, in ms infinite wisdom they omitted the ethernet port and I don't think safe mode with networking will extend to the WiFi

Ok, so i cant use the beta logger as i cant physically get it onto the surface book as there is no ethernet port and wifi is not included in "safe mode with networking"?

So i will persevere with a clean boot.

When you say successfully boot, i take it you mean that the laptop is working as normal, ie, boots straight away without BSOD or safe mode ? if so then no, it goes BSOD and i have to boot safe mode again

I have now shown all microsoft services and disabled them all and all startup items, it still will not boot other than safe mode.

All i really want to do is get my files off then reset it. Can i do it in safe mode? its got to be easier then all this

In safe mode you will still be able to access all your files and but I am not sure how you are going to save them if you can't connect a USB drive or transfer them to a networked drive or cloud storage. Safe mode with networking requires a wired connection. I am not familiar with the Surface Book - is there any connection you can make to an external drive?

im suprised that this so called great piece of kit has no ethernet port when i paid just shy of 1.5K for it !!!.

I have USB network adaptors but i am scuppered by by the fact the usb drivers are not loaded in safe mode...pretty much fekked by microsoft here.

Do you have any restore points saved from a few weeks ago when your device was working properly that you can try and activate? Again I'm not sure if the Surface uses system protection or not.

I didnt make any restore points.i was hoping i could make a bootable win10 usb drive and boot from that and reinstall windows without losing my files but the option to do that in start up repair doesnt let me so im not holding my breath that it will let me from s bootable usb drive

That would be the way to go if you can get a USB drive to boot.

it wont let me upgrade from usb unless i boot into windows normally and fire it up from there *Sad....

However, i have just tried again, the option to reset PC without losing files..and its started, not sure if this is because its using the USB, it didnt let me before...fingers crossed x
