    A backup image protects everything, personal files and operating system files. I find it more comforting to be able to do an image restore and be back up and running exactly as the computer was at the time the image was created in 20 to 30 minutes rather then have to go through a install and updates, which can take several hours then install all my programs and data. A backup also gives me the drivers I was using at the time the backup was created which can often be critical.

    I don't understand why anyone would not want to create image backups on a regular basis.

    Just got a BSOD tonight. Not sure if it was related to my previous BSODs, which went away after updating my GPU drivers.

    1) Run the beta version of the log collector using extract > open > post a zip into the thread:
    log collector v2-beta08.zip

    2) Open file explorer > this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for: C:\windows\memory.dmp > zip > post a link into the thread.

    zbook, you left out a step *Smile . After you zip the memory.dmp, upload it to a file sharing site like OneDrive, then post a link to the file on that site so it can be downloaded.

    The memory dump was able to be downloaded.
    However three times it displayed CRC failed: MEMORY error.
    Maybe Ztrucker can open it.

    The bugchecks for the past 2 months have been:

    12B (2/4 and 2/10) This is a hardware memory error.

    2) In the left lower corner search type: system > open system control panel > on the left pane click advanced system settings > under startup and recovery > click settings > under system failure > un-check automatically restart > make sure write debugging information is set to automatic memory dump

    6) The computer has 2 graphics cards:
    IGPU Intel HD Graphics 530
    DGPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M
    Look in the BIOS and owners manual for an option to turn off Optimus and only use the Nvidia GPU.
    If you are able to find this option please set it so that the Optimus is off.
    Then test the Nvidia GPU with Furmark:
    Aim for 1 hour testing.
    Record the highest temperature and the test duration.
    Read this link for the warnings about aborting the test due to: temperature, freezing, display artifacts etc,

    7) After completing the test on the Nvidia GPU > turn on Optimus > test Intel GPU using Furmark

    I can open the MEMORY.DMP, it's a SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (7e).

    DPS shows Code: ffff8185`c4b06628 fffff80b`4b80ff98*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for igdkmd64.sys igdkmd64+0x11ff98[/quote] igdkmd64.sys file is a software component of Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers from Intel.

    That's all I see in the dump.

    Wow. I did not realize I had multiple BSODs in the past couple months. I updated the BIOS and the Intel GPU drivers. I also made the recommended changes to the system failure settings and will be running chkdisk over the weekend. I cannot disable Optimus. Alienware does not give that option. I will have to see how the newer drivers and BIOS work and if I get anymore BSODs.

    Had another faulty hardware corrupted page BSOD tonight. Attached is the log collector files. Also the win32kbase.sys. Could not find any win32k dump files on the C Drive. Ran chkdsk and DISM.exe scanhealth. Neither one showed any abnormalities. Updated my BIOS per recommendation as well as the Intel GPU and Nvidia GPU drivers.

    There was 1 BSOD mini dump file and when debugged it displayed bugcheck 12B.
    This bugcheck is for hardware problems and can sometimes occur due to antivirus software.
    The bugchecks in the logs have been:
    7E
    109
    12B
    1A
    D1
    1) See if you can find a kernel memory dump: win32kbase.sys-20180321-0751.dmp > zip > post a share link
    It is 1.8 GB and may take a long time to upload and download.
    2) There was also a memory dump: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP > zip > post a share link
    It is 1.3 GB and may take a long time to upload and download.


    3) Uninstall Kaspersky using the applicable uninstall tool:
    Removal tool for Kaspersky Lab products (kavremover)

    4) Turn on Windows defender
    5) Please wait 2 weeks or more before reinstalling Kaspersky.
    The greater the time period the better for evaluating cause and effect.
    If there is a BSOD when Kaspersky is reinstalled then find alternative AV software.
    If there is no BSOD when Kaspersky is reinstalled then you can continue using the AV software.

    Has anyone reviewed whether overclocking is causing a problem? My guess: the Turbo Boost setting is activated and is kicking in. Turbo Boost can take it to 3500Hz maximum so you are actually OK

Try turning it off (in BIOS) and see if it makes a difference.

    It is also possible that your memory speed frequency is set too high. Memory spec is DDR4 2133Hz for this CPU. I think yours is set at 2400Hz. Try reducing it.

    Thank you. I will reduce the RAM clock speed and deactivate Turbo Boost. I have also uninstalled Kaspersky. I could not find any dump files. I searched the entire C drive for *.dmp files with none turning up.

    If you find the reduced memory clock frequency and no Turbo Boost helps you can then try turning Turbo Boost back on since the memory clock might be the main factor causing your crashes.

    Was able to deactivate Turbo Boost. But there is no option on the BIOS to change the clock speed of the RAM.
