    BSODs after the anniversary update

I don't know where to begin with this one.

I was on windows 7 in the past and my PC (custom built) constantly suffered from BSOD and random crashes (like browsers crashing randomly). I did my best to try and find out what is causing these issues and ended up narrowing it down to a bad driver which I couldn't locate. I gave up and just lived with it. This was till the windows 10 upgrade from 7 because somehow after upgrading, every single problem disappeared. No more BSODs for around a year and a half and neither chrome nor firefox ever crashed. I assumed windows upgrade must have fixed the faulty driver. Everything was fine till the anniversary update.

Windows updated and all the problems returned. I went back the build and problems disappeared. But I stupidly forgot to shut off the updates and one night my windows automatically got updated again and this time I couldn't go back the build.

So here we are. Most of my BSODS are either IRQL less or equal memory management. And browser constantly crashes (those aw snap errors on chrome) but I suppose this is not the right section for that.

Also a thing to note, 75% of my initial BSODS happened whenever my pc tried to install MS update KB3200970. That was a problem on its own but I managed to install it in the end (was hoping that might fix the problem)

What I have done so far

-Ran memtest86+ and it ran fine
-Freshly Installed windows THREE times. Tried to download the 1511 build but it didn't fix anything.
-Tried my best to update every driver
    - Ran sfc/scannow with no faults (failed to run a lot of the times)
    - Ran chkdsk
    - Driver verifier running atm
    - Tried DISM health restoration command
    - Learned how to debug dump files and how to read them. Although I am still new to it but I did try my best to find if it would point to the driver that is causing this.

I 95% believe it's a driver which is causing all my issues. But I am not sure which one. My 2nd guess is that my motherboard is just too old (AS rock z68 Extreme 4) and perhaps just not good enough. Or maybe I need to tweak some UEFI settings?

At this point I just hope one of you guys can help me. Because I am moving to ubuntu till I can build a new PC otherwise.

Thanks for taking time to read this.

    :)

  2. Microsoft Cumulative Update, 31st August 2016 (KB3176938) | Windows 10 1607

    Same things happen on me

The windows 10 anniversary updates is quite stable for me. But after this update i get a lot of bsods in just a day.

All bsods points to driver power state failure.

    Please microsoft fix this....

  3. KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED on igdkmd64.sys after Anniversary Update

Several BSODs after Win10 anniversary update - potential solution

I experienced a number of BSODs after installing the Win 10 anniversary update, ie the one that broke (a lot of) Logitech webcams and also disabled video calling in Skype at least on my desktop machine. At least one BSOD came with
the same "Kmode_Exception_Not_Handled" error code as above.

I physically disconnected the webcam from the computer and since then I have not experienced any BSODS or other flaky performance. The before and after difference is clear as before I removed the webcam it had become almost impossible
    to use the computer.

This information is almost certainly arriving too late for most but may be useful for a few.

    Peter.

    BSODs after the anniversary update

Dumps are not giving me anything useful. Looking at drivers.txt, I see one very old driver:
    2007/06/01 11:37:00 C:\Windows\system32\drivers\WG111Tvx.sys
Looks like it belongs to NETGEAR WG111T USB2.0. Do you still use this USB Wireless Adapter. If yes, I suggest you uninstall it then download and install the latest driver you can find. If not, just uninstall it.

    Thanks for the reply.

WG111T is indeed my wireless USB adapter. And the driver for it hasn't been updated since 2007 so the driver I have is literally the only one available on the internet. I'd be happy to replace it with something more compatible with windows 10 if that is indeed the problem. I did think about getting a new wireless adapter but I just need to confirm if that's the problem in the first place.

I can uninstall it but it will just disable the internet. I am far away from Ethernet point as well.

One thing I have noticed is that Chrome's tabs start crashing quite frequently (aw snap error) and then the BSOD hits. Same if I am running a site with flash content on it (or firefox).

I don't know of any way to check it out other than replace it. Do you have another Windows 10 system available? If so you could use it there for awhile and see what happens.

Lots of new ones available. For instance: usb wireless adapter for windows 10

I don't have another windows 10 system unfortunately. I can try buy a new wireless adapter but I honestly don't think it's the issue.

Did you see anything else weird in the dumps? or anything that might be pointing towards the issues?

I was thinking about uninstalling the intel chipset drivers and see if windows can automatically update them to a different version.

    edit: tried that and fruitless.

Ran both of those tests and it resulted with no errors. Was hoping the GPU stress would at least result in something since I think the problem lies with the GPU in some ways (screen going black before loading a flash containing page for example). But nothing.

At this point I am just going to blame my motherboard for being too outdated. I don't know if there is anything else left to try.

    Unfortunately that did nothing.

Got 2-3 more BSODS but I couldn't find anything in them either so I am not sure it's worth attaching them.

I am thinking about re-installing windows again for the 4th time. If that doesn't work then I'll just change my OS and build a new PC after Christmas.

Thanks for all your help though. Appreciate it.

The cheapest and easiest thing to try is replace the WGT111T USB wireless device. Prices range from $3 to $50 US.

Any chance you can connect with an Ethernet cable and remove the USB wifi for testing?
