    Can I set up an child account without an Microsoft account?


    Hi,

    I do not have a Microsoft account but I'd like to set up an Windows account for my child (6 years old).

    I would like to basically restrict everything, and just let her play a couple of games.

    It is very important that she is not allowed to delete, change or destroy anything.

    Can this be done somehow?

    Changing Adult Account to Child Account

    My child's account was mistakenly set up as an adult with a credit card. I have added the correct child birth date, deleted the credit card info, and added the child to my family account. Will my child still be able to change settings on their microsoft
    account without parental permission?

    Family Safety is available and can be setup on Windows 10.

    You need to setup a Local Account for your Kids on Windows 10 and follow the steps from the above Microsoft Article link to setup Family Safety features on Windows 10.

    Make a local account and set the family settings up. Have a look through the tutorials as sure there a page Brink has done for this *Smile

    Seems the OP does not have (or apparently want) a Microsoft account.

    Unfortunately it's a requirement for Child Accounts - from the tutorial...

    It is correct that I do not want to use my Microsoft account. I have had nothing but trouble when I used that before I reinstalled Windows after a format of the disks. Accessing Safe mode is one problem for example. It won't accept my Microsoft password. But that is another topic I guess...

    I'll take a look at that. Can I install software on that account perhaps?

    A Guest account is very limited in what it can do. You may be able to install software by providing an administrator account and password if you get the UAC prompt. If that fails, you could always promote it to a standard account (or administrator) to install software (or make any customisations you need) then demote it back to the Guests group when you're done.

    You can manipulate Group membership in any edition of Windows 10 (Home or Pro) with netplwiz. See post #25 here...

    I just tried to set up a child account but that was just a long way from what I'm after.

    Microsoft require that my daughter, six years of age, has her own email account and Microsoft account. The password has to be a strong one with random letters and numbers.

    Although I should have stopped just there I set this up for her only to find out that her account was able to delete any files or folders that she accidentally could delete. She could also enter settings and change whatever she wanted. It is basically a normal account...

    This is just stupid and not suitable for a child! *Mad

    You could try making it a Guest account as well, that would take care of Settings at least...

    I thank you for the additional suggestions, but this is just not what I’m after...

    I was looking for a safe user account for my daughter so that she could start learning using a computer at her low age, but it is just too complicated. It will have to wait.
