Windows 10: Cannot Download Anything From Microsoft Store

Well tomorrow came and went, with a much bigger issue to deal with then the inability to download apps from the MS Store.

You may be happy know that all is back to normal and I still cannot download apps or get updates. *Smile

 

You live an exciting technology life. Very glad mine is very boring, touch wood.

Have you used the Windows 10 Recovery Drive to create what I will call loosely the Emergency disk from 7. This Recovery Drive creates a USB key.

Depending on how important the Store and apps are to you I think your last resort is a clean install, deleting all existing partitions.

It appears that you’re unable to install or update apps from windows store.


The solution is:


1. Open the start menu.
2. Type msconfig.
3. Open "System configuration"
4. Select "Normal boot."
5. Restart computer.

 

Thanks Ken, because I am back to where I was right after the unwanted automatic Creators Update was forced on me, I am going back to the MS Store in Orlando and have them (if they are capable) fix the store and update issue. I have captured lots of screen-shots for them to look at, and a list of all the suggested (by MS) corrective but failed actions they recommended.

I could always ask for my money back, I suppose. *Mad However if this machine can be fixed, it has great potential. I can then install all of my NLE and audio software and get back to business. Until then I am back to using my 2009 Windows 7 Sony Vaio VGNZ laptop.

Oops, I omitted to mention that I did create a win 10 Recovery Drive using my Win 7 laptop, that is what got me going again.

Great. I think you said you use the media creator to create a USB key.

The recovery drive is similar but it allows you to load all you system drivers specific to that device. It is a built in process. If you want to check it out type recovery drive in cortana.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Win 10 Forum just now. I have several Win 7 machines so I thought I would give one of them a shakedown and try downloading from the MS Store. Guess what, same deal, no go, kaput? Is it me or what, maybe my MS account is screwed up? I am going to try my Dell 755 Win 7 desktop. Grrr... *Sad

 

Have you tried changing your DNS servers?

 

I have not Ken, I am not big on that end of the business. Can you point me in the right direction?

I also did the other Router/Modem checks suggested in a previous post.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with a Tech at the Microsoft Store in Orlando Florida, I will be surprised if he can fix it. If there is a bug or two in 1703, the solution is out of his hands. I may just do a complete op sys and data backup today to one of my External Drives then ask for my money back tomorrow if it cannot be fixed while I am there. Grrr... *Sad

 

Yes so the suggestion is to force DNS servers in that panel, you can just use Google severs listed in tutorial.

I think you said other devices in house can't reach store either.

If it is your DNS servers, your internet connection or something your supplier is "Blocking" (use that term very loosely) then I would expect it will work when you get to shop.

I think very early in this thread your flush your DNS, one of four commands I think I provided.

Thanks Ken, I must have missed the Google servers listed in the tutorial. Right now I am doing the partition backups for C op sys drive and D data drive. As soon as they are done, I will go back to the DNS servers business.

My Sony Vaio Z Win 7 laptop would not download anything from the store either, not even a simple calculator. I have a few others I will try them too.

I changed the DNS Servers to 8 8 8 8 and 8 8 4 4, but still no downloads. I finished my drive partition backups so the next step is the Microsoft Store on Tuesday. Wish me luck.
