Windows 10: Clean installation problems

I'm trying to do a fresh install of windows 10 onto my SSD.
When I boot my ISO off the flash drive I get to where I have to select to storage device and sometimes it says the compatibility is wrong and sometimes it's fine I've tried swapping them between GPT and MBR as well as the format of ISO. But the times it does work i get through the installation of windows and it restarts my computer it then won't boot with the installed OS even though it occupies the space on the SSD.
I've done some reading and it might have something to do with the format of the SSD or how I'm setting it up as I'm not sure how legacy/uefi works.

Please be aware that you cannot use the free upgrade offer to perform a clean install on first attempt. You must first upgrade from the qualifying version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 (whether you do
it through Windows Update
or using the .ISO file). Ensure the upgrade is completed successfully and then ensure that it is activated.

Windows 10 Pro 64bit clean installation problems

Hi there,

Im running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit and im having issues doing a clean install of windows 10 64bit Pro. Whenever I have to insert my Win8.1 product key during the Win10 clean install my product key does not get accepted. Am I doing something wrong during the
installation or have I chosen the incorrect ISO available for download. I did make sure though that I chose the correct version of the Windows 10 ISO.

If anyone can help please...

 

Hi, while it has nothing to do with the problem you're experiencing, one thing you should do is make sure you are using the AHCI (BIOS setting) not IDE so your SSD performance is maximised, before installing Windows.

Also when installing Windows, I suggest you try removing any other disks. (Do any other disks have remnants of OS's on them?)

Having done that, I would boot from e.g. Kyhi's boot disk (DVD/flash drive) available from the top of the Software and Apps section of this forum, and verify you can reliably access your SSD and run e.g. Crystal Diskinfo (free) to check it.

Notes on UEFI/GPT:
Configure UEFI/GPT-Based Hard Drive Partitions

Assuming your BIOS supports UEFI, you will need to use GPT format.

When you have done checks as above and installed Windows as appropriate to your needs (e.g. you have decided to use GPT and UEFI) then post a screenshot of Disk Management.

 

How did you create the Windows 10 installation flash drive?

 

I have my SATA mode set to AHCI.
I've removed my old HDD that had my old OS on it so it's just my SSD pluged in.
Using rufus I can't put Kyhi's boot disk ISO onto my USB and comes up with "ISO Image extraction failure"
My bios does support UEFI but when my SSD is plugged in, it's not recognized by UEFI.

But I'm still having the same issue as when the Windows Operating system is installed onto my SSD after the reboot regardless if i remove the USB or not, it will either reload the Install process again. Or if I remove the USB and load the SSD with the operating system it comes up with "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in select boot device and press a key" even though Windows is on the SSD and it's the booted device.

My old HDD that I still have my old operating system on runs of MBR if that helps.

 

The problem is more than likely the USB flash drive you created with Rufus. I will post more when I have something available other than my phone. Rufus is by far NOT the best way to make the flash drive which is exactly the reason why I asked - and I got the answer I expected.

I would use this method to create the USB flash drive:
Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive

At step 9 make sure to use the FAT32 filesystem:
9. To format the partition, type format fs=fat32 quick, and then click ENTER.

For step 12, mount the Windows 10 ISO file and copy all the files and folders from the mounted ISO file to the flash drive.

Then, if you want to make Kyhi's recovery tools, I recommend you consider my quote in the middle of the OP of the thread:

In the computer's UEFI, in the boot options, disable CSM mode, CSM capability, legacy mode, and/or legacy capability - whatever happens to be there. Secure boot has also been known to cause problems too, so might want to disable that.

Boot the computer from the flash drive, select the custom install option, delete all the partitions on the SSD, pick the unallocated space to install Windows to and click NEXT - not new. If the computer reboots into Windows setup or Kyhi's recovery drive from the USB during setup, just remove the flash drive and reboot the computer.

 

I got into kyhi's recovery tool, and started the install process but I'm still having the same issue as before that it keep getting messages saying that even when everything was correct and in the right it installed but when I booted it off the SSD it was saying that there was no bootable media on this device even though windows was installed.

I then booted kyhi's recovery tool up and found that when I was going through my SSD the MBR and PBR process's were unknown and it's constantly going on about the compatibility issues.

All of the bois setting we're set up as recommended but still had no effect to the outcome

 

While you are in Kyhi's Recovery Tools, please post a screenshot of Disk Management. Make sure to widen all the columns so we can see all the data in the columns:
