Windows 10: Create This PC Shortcut in Windows 10

The method I use here is a little different for not only seeing it pinned onto the task bar but for needing a short cut in the Quick Bar used to replace the old Quick Launch section of the task bar on the older versions(XP, Vista). I go right into the Windows directory itself and simply right click on the explorer.exe file and select the "create shortcut" option in the right click menu.

Once you select that you will see the yes or no prompt appear indicating the shortcut cannot be made in the directory but on the desktop where you click "yes". From there you right click again to pin not only to the task bar but the Start section as well for ready access. Also once the new shortcut in on the desktop you can drag that into a new tool bar for quick launch items. Here's how that looks.





The red arrow points to the explorer.exe file which appears in a folder view as "explorer" when going into the Windows directory in 10. On the previous versions when right clicking to see this done you would have seen an old crt looking monitor appear as the default icon many of us will immediately recall. The other screen here shows how it looks when also having it pinned to the Start.





If you just happen to be busy in Settings or something and need to find out if a file is somewhere it comes in handy having it pinned there as well. *Biggrin

 

Or you can do all this the easy way:
Right click on desktop, select Personalize, click on Themes, then select Desktop Icon Settings and tick Computer and you are done.

Yep, that's certainly another way to create a "This PC" shortcut, but it won't have a "Pin to taskbar" option (if wanted) in its context menu using that method.
