    Creators Update Broke Edge

All other browser work fine... but after the Creators Update Edge is behaving badly with intermittent problems.

Main error is 'Hmmm... cannot reach this page' with 'The DNS server might be having problems. Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND' when Details is clicked.

Another symptom is that some pages load, but do not work - e.g. I cannot upload a cover photo to a Google My Business profile. The image shows blank.

All other browsers work perfectly and Edge was working perfectly before the update.

I have tried uninstalling the LAN adaptor in Device Manger and rebooting to rebuild the TCP/IP stack but the problem comes back.

    *UPDATE*

Edge works OK for a while after a restart - but the error returns.

This must be happening to other people....

    :)

  2. Creator's Update 1709 ruined my Surface Tablets, Surface Pro 4, Pro 2, Microsoft Office Click to Run, Edge, Search bar Edge

I installed the "Creator's Update" on my Surface Pro devices. Unfortunately, I thought it would work and cleaned up the .old files to make more disk space - since then

Surface Pro 4 battery life went from ~8 hours to <2

Computer running hot & at 100% unless I manually disable Microsoft Office Click to Run

Web Proxy Auto Discovery Service constantly running 30%+

Fan running in max, constantly. Never heard it before installing 1709

    Cortana - broke

    Search Bar - broke

    Edge - broke

    Help - broke

    Voice Recognition - broke

Tried reinstallation of Windows 10 on the Surface 2, no changes

Update Firmware on Surface 2 & 4, no changes

(only my work Surfaces are not updated and they do fine)

    Current Version:

Surface Driver Update dTPM (IFX) date 12/11/17

    Cumulative Windows Update 2017-11

Did Microsoft break their own hardware? Any ideas to get things working normally?

  3. Windows 10 missing entries under programs and features

To add: I think it got something to do with the Creator Update: many of the still listed programs are showing as installation date the 2nd May 2017, exactly the day when the Creator Update went. And these programs I didn't touch for months/years.

So for me it seems that the creators update broke something.

    Creators Update Broke Edge

    Welcome to the forum !

Just a guess: run sfc/scannow for possible corrupt files.

Also, bump to top for more opinions.

Edit: Also, check this tutorial on resetting Edge to its default state.

Interesting read, but didn't really help apart from showing me where to get proper error details... So here's the error... I have a few like this...

FuZZBaLL; it is easier and quicker to simply reinstall Edge to a clean slate rather than try to debug your issues. First, export your favorites to an html file to replace later.

Here is a Brink tutorial to Reset Edge with a download file-
Reset Microsoft Edge to Default in Windows 10

This is the brute force method, if you want to do yourself or above file fails. To clean out Edge- Open this hidden folder -
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe

'Select all' folders, then Delete. If you can't do this because process or admin right is keeping you from doing so, boot into safe mode and do it, then reboot. Then, run powershell (admin) and this command -
    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}

When all this finishes (less than 5 minutes), you have a fresh copy of Edge that should be perfect. Import your favorites, then re-do your start or home page and other settings and you should be good to go. Good Luck

    Creators Update Broke Edge

Since installing the Creator Update I've been seeing exactly the same Edge problem as FuZZBaLL, on two separate computers. I've only noticed it on sites that use https, although that may just be coincidence. Other browsers continue to work as before.

It's intermittent, it works for a while, then it doesn't - no pattern I can discern. I tried tinkering with my DNS settings, or using a VPN through work, and at first I thought I was on to something, but in the end the problem always comes back.

    sfc/scannow doesn't identify any problems.

I was hoping to see more people reporting the problem - until it's more widely felt I don't have much confidence that Microsoft will look into it.

    Cheers
    John

    Here's what I've tried...

    • Uninstall of the LAN adaptor and reboot so Windows detects it again and reinstalls - rebuilding the TCP/IP layer.
    • sfc /scannow - with no problems found.
    • Manually set the DNS servers to the OpenDNS ( 208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220 )
Then just generally used my PC as normal - rebooting when ever Edge decides not to find a site.

Problem appears to be random... sometime it doesn't happen for hours after a reboot, and other times it happens straight away.

Does Microsoft want me to switch to Chrome or Firefox? *Wink

Resetting/reinstalling Edge hasn't been tried - mainly because I have a lot of stored passwords - but if people with the problem say that's a fix then I might have to.

I also had this problem with creators update.

This is what I did, and It seems it works. (Note I have Windows in Spanish, so I don't know if these are the exact names of the locations).

1.- I went to Windows "settings".
    2.- I went to "Network".
3.- In the "status" settings, I push "reestablish network".

    And now Edge works.

I don't have this problem, but I do have an English install so I can provide the exact names...:
Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset

Not only did re-installing Edge fix all my operational issues but when I re-imported by favorites and added back Lastpass extension, it started working like it should ... auto-signing in when I opened the browser instead not remembering my info and half the time saying the password was incorrect which it never is, since it's the same one I use on Chrome and Pale Moon.
Before a re-install, export your favorites to an HTML file and take a screenshot of the saved passwords in Edge so you know which sites to revisit and re-enter or add the Lastpass extension so it's remembered and can sync on any browser. The uninstall and reinstall should take under 5 minutes and if Brink's tutorial script works, probably under 2 minutes, far less than what you've already spent, in vain.

    Creators Update Broke Edge

The issue FuZZbaLL describes sounds a little like the issue I'm experiencing.

Edit... I marked this solved, then unsolved and then solved again but its not.

Edge problem after CU upgrade. Could someone confirm or otherwise. - Solved - Windows 10 Forums

I find a router (not modem) instantly restart fixes the issue for a while (hours to a day). I've tried a few things such changing DNS servers but nothing has fixed the issue permanently. I'm trialling another 'fix' and waiting for the problem to surface again... it hasn't yet...

Yes I had the same problem with the exact error. My fix...reset the OS...you don't lose pwd's, like defaulting Edge.
It worked and haven't had the problem since. I posted this four days ago. Thread "DNS ISSUES" hth

In addition of slow loading, the new Malwarebytes could be playing a part there. There are postings all over TF about how the new Malwarebytes isn't playing nice with Edge.

After a complete reset of my LAN - which didn't fix the problem - I've now done the Edge reset/reinstall several times... same error every time - Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND

It's actually worse now... Happens even when I try to set the default search engine to Google straight after the reinstall!

Ridiculous thing is that I opened this as a link from an email in Outlook - it opened with Edge and I posted this with Edge.

So I've got two tabs open - this post and the first tab giving the error!

For the record, I don't use Malwarebytes or any other AV - Edge was brilliant until the Creators Update.

    *UPDATE*

Still doing it... tried everything apart from what can fix it!

But here's something that might help people.

After reinstalling Edge, when you import the saved Favourites, Edge will put them in a date named sub folder. You then have to manually move them out - especially irritating if you use the Favourites bar!

This makes life MUCH easier.... Manage Edge Favorites

You can use it to organise the imported favourites much more easily.
