See if boot rescue will allow you to save all of the important files.

Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums

Then check the drive with HD Tune or HD Sentinel
    Health (SMART)
    Benchmark
    Full Error Scan (Surface)
    HD Tune website
Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring
Once the files are backed up and the drive is ok then you can perform a clean install > restore files > make a backup image using Macrium
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Sorry was asleep, different timezone to you guys, trying Dism /Image:E:\ /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
E:\ is the OS drive when booting from win10 usb drive.

Does it matter if I choose UEFI to boot and I'm using an ISO that has multiple win10 versions on it?

Heading out for a couple hours, then will move onto the boot rescue to save files and check the HD mentioned by zbook.

I have a clone of the HD already, I used Macrium to clone to external HD before i started working on this.

    Running thru the tests now.

Having had a backup image why not use it without all of the troubleshooting steps?

The clone of the HD was done 2 days ago, not before the corrupt windows file/s. If I have to do a clean install, I can copy over personal data from it. Its a clone, not an image.

Critical System driver is missing or corrupt. Automatic repair fails.

booted up off macrium rescue usb, made clone of the SSD to external HD, plugged external HD into working computer and checked that i could access all personal files. I've always done it this way. Dunno if its the best way, but don't work in this industry anymore.

The drive is okay by the HD Tune tests.
The chkdsk command can be run anytime to check and fix the file system bitmap.

So far HD Tune and chkdsk are okay.
So clean install deleting all partitions making an unallocated drive.
See the links in the prior posts.

Once you have completed the restoration use the computer for 1 - 2 days to create log files.
Then if you have any problems you can run the log collector if there is anything to troubleshoot.

You can try to restore your system using the clone.
