I think your right on this. I believe I once saw Brink had posted a tutorial with a batch file you could download and run to do this quickly.

I take it you mean on by default.
It can still be set up manually.

I stopped using SR when I purchased Macrium Reflect. SR uses quite a large amount of disk space, I believe 75% of the amount of memory Since I have 24Gb's that would be wasted space on my SSD. I do an image every night which takes about 4.5 minutes to do..

This tutorial is to completely stop then re-register Windows Update. For the purposes here you just need to stop WU, use the first two commands from the .bat file in an Admin Command prompt.

    net stop bits
    net stop wuauserv

Methinks its a false positive....have performed this operation several times on both Insider and public released versions.
If System Restore is turned on Windows automatically does a Restore point on each update.
Have just done a restore, which shows your pointed out flaw, then a scannow, and a dism, no fault being found, afterwards checked all Apps plus updated Apps
Everything appears to be working normally.

Come to think again, is this really so? Since everyone's complaining their update downloads are so large. I haven't investigated myself and wasn't sure this would be only reason it takes so long for some. But it would make sense, plus the computing time needed to extract what is actually needed of a generic, one fits all rollup.

Yup, everything is working normally except System Restore. It's still broken. Hopefully MS will fix it soon. It was a nice feature to use when I didn't want to go to a full restore using Macrium.

LOL Excuse me but I chose to believe my lying eyes as I see it on all the computers here. And what my lying eyes are seeing has been confirmed all over the internet including here. If your's isn't broken then you seem to be a rare exception.

Thanks, updated without issues. Downloaded from MS Catalog before I realized that the same update got pushed to Windows Update. Used WU to apply the update.

Had an issue with this latest update KB4015438. The first time it just sat there for quite some time not doing anything so after about an hour I reset and tried again. Right now it is sitting in my Update History as "Requires a restart to finish installing" I restarted, and the status is the same.

    SFC and DISM run clean.
PS. I noticed before this issue that the DISM command completes much quicker than I remember. Currently my DISM completes in under 4 minutes..
