Windows 10: Deleted Cortana Shortcut

Yeah, I did that. Now I can not start Cortana on my Windows 10 desktop... Um, what is the target for Cortana? Or how can I make a new Cortana shortcut?

I deleted Notepad, help?!

Did you actually delete the file out of the c:\windows\system folder, or did you just happen to delete the shortcut Notepad icon?

Try typing the word "Notepad" into the Search/Cortana box and see what appears.

 

Can't open IE 11.

Can't open IE 11, is it deleted or blocked? Tried to set up Google as my default search engine (and homepage), things got weird. The shortcut for IE that was on my desktop, said couldn't find the page, Edge couldn't find it, or Cortana. I liked it for
a browser over Edge, because of it solved my problem of not having a menu bar or being able to save most web pages or Facebook entries. I did delete the shortcut for IE, (thought I could create a new shortcut), but didn't help. Why can't I open it, is it deleted
somehow, or blocked? thanks, Mike

 

Hi there. Are you speaking about the one on the Taskbar? If so, how did you do that?

What does pressing WinKey/S do for you?

I have not had Cortana in the taskbar in the recent past. I went to the two start menu locations that I know of...

1) C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
2) C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

and I started messing around. I was in the process of customizing the start screen when I realized I had deleted the Cortana shortcut. How can I recreate it?

By the way, WinKey/S brings up Cortana! Thanks!

 

Hi Brink, thank you for the info. I guess my real interest at this point is, how can I make shortcuts to the things that are in the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder?

I am embarrassed to say this, but the Cortana shortcut reappeared after I restarted my computer. Usually I just put it to sleep...
