Don't want it, don't need it. Plus I've convinced myself of the effectiveness of such software (or rather the absence of any) long ago. An anti-virus' sole purpose is to slap you over the hand whenever you do anything even remotely dangerous, not actually removing any harmful software or running damage control.

Anyway, switching to Linux I guess, sigh. You can lock this.

  4. Disable real-time protection.

The only way to disable it 100% is to have another AV running. It even says in the settings if you turn it off, it will turn itself back on after a while. You can get many free AV programs. Just install another one, and then you disable Defender. My like is Defender. Runs silently in the background, doesn't take a lot of resources, and is pretty much out of the way unless something is detected.

Just don't think Linux is going to save you. I find more annoying things in Linux than in windows. asking for password on many steps is just one of them, to say nothing about it having 1% of number of programs available for Windows.

As far as it comes to malware Linux is definitely going to save him. There are other, Linux specific problems. But malware is definitely not among them.

There's malware for Linux too but because of small percentage Linux has, so is smaller amount of malware. Mac can get hammered also. Android and others are good target and are vulnerable just as well. There's nothing 100% safe.

Like that in Windows 8.1. Most likely in Windows 7 if i recall. YW
No need to disable manually for this situation.

  13. Disable real-time protection.

You have to turn off WD manually and then use it, since WD protects itself from shutting down.

I know that technically there is malware for Linux too. But you have already given the answer yourself. Since Linux is almost non-existent in the desktop market (with a global market share around 1-2 %) it's just not worth the effort to create and distribute malware for it. What's more those 1-2 % are also spread among several distributions so the number of targets you can attack with one piece of malware gets even smaller than 1-2 % of the global market. I think it's save to say that the probability of falling victim to Linux malware is as "high" as the probability of winning the lottery jackpot *Wink
