  2. i have turned it off for now. because saving points while the problem is ongoing is err "point"less. maybe i will become adapted to using the filetool program as well as glarysoft's disk analyser.. oh and i tried boot safe mode while pressing f4 before logon but it didnt respond.

Just make it simple... when you boot to the login screen- don't log in; bottom right, click power, then you can find restart (rt click - I can't recall) then press the SHIFT key down and while it's pressed, click the Restart as I said.

PC will restart, follow the prompts thru blue screens and click Advanced then Safe Mode.

What you've missed in Option 1 in the Tutorial is clicking on the link advanced startup

  6. i went into safe mode as directed. the same problem occured. since i dont have previous restore point saved the problem is stuck with me. and of course i dont want to do the previous backup -before i had issue because of fear some of paid programs would become unregistered. the situation is moot me thinks. iam already intergrating the other 2 options to view drive capacity as well as create new folders using glarysoft disk analysis and filetool/folder marker.

  7. Windows Vista/ 7/8/8.1/10 keep a regular backup of the registry handy in case you need to overwrite a corrupted registry. By default, the RegIdleBackup task runs every 10 days, so that’s as far back as you would lose if you replaced the current registry with the automatically backed-up files. You can find the backed-up registry files in \Windows\System32\config\RegBack folder.

Please boot your computer with Windows Setup Media and from Windows Recovery Environment start the Command Prompt.

Please type below commands into Command Prompt and for each command you have typed press Enter key.

    Code: Ren C:\windows\system32\config\SAM SAM.BAK Ren C:\windows\system32\config\SYSTEM SYSTEM.BAK Ren C:\windows\system32\config\SECURITY SECURITY.BAK Ren C:\windows\system32\config\DEFAULT DEFAULT.BAK Ren C:\windows\system32\config\SOFTWARE SOFTWARE.BAK Copy C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack\SAM C:\windows\system32\config Copy C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack\SYSTEM C:\windows\system32\config Copy C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack\SECURITY C:\windows\system32\config Copy C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack\DEFAULT C:\windows\system32\config Copy C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack\SOFTWARE C:\windows\system32\config[/quote]
This procedure assumes that Windows Vista/7/8/8.1/10 is installed to the C:\ partition. Make sure to replace C:\ drive letter to the appropriate Windows OS installed partition drive letter if it is a different location.

Above commands renames the registry files at their existing location, and then copies the registry files from the RegBack folder to the C:\Windows\System32\Config folder.

thx for your reply. but at this point i have accepted my fate. that is why i tagged as resolved. perhaps one day in future i will resolve this perplexing issue. iam still wanting to know what program could be responsible in changing the folder configuration and not being able to see drive sizes

An in-place upgrade repair, as stated, keeps all programs.

If you feel threatened by that, create a disk image of your current windows installation (hope you're using disk imaging routinely already as we recommend repeatedly) then you can always restore Windows as is. Then do the in-place upgrade repair install.

Yes, but what's your upload speed? May depend how patient you are, or whether you can play a round of golf or unblock the sink while it's uploading... probably both, perhaps several times!
